As we conclude this week’s theme of shining our light, this verse reminds us where that light truly comes from. Without the sun, the moon would sit in complete darkness. In the same way, without God, we would be lost in darkness too. God doesn’t need light because He is light. And just like the moon reflects the light of the sun, our calling is to reflect His light into the world around us.

“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” — 1 John 1:5

“Doubting Thomas” is more than just a nickname, it’s a reminder that Jesus meets us even in our questions.

In the latest new episode of If That Makes Sense, we take a closer look at Thomas’ response to the resurrection of Christ and the hope we can find in Jesus’ post-resurrection appearances to His closest friends.

If you’ve ever wrestled with doubt, needed reassurance, or wanted deeper faith, this conversation is for you.
(John 20:19–31)

If there’s a light on a hill, everyone in the city will notice it. And not only will they see it, but they may use that light to help find their way home. That’s part of what Jesus calls His followers to be. Not the source of the light ourselves, but people who reflect His light and point others toward the One who ultimately leads them home.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” — Matthew 5:14

What Jesus shares in this passage is one of the things that sets believers apart. We don’t walk through life alone trying to figure out truth by ourselves. We have the Light of the World guiding us toward truth, revealing the dark places in our hearts, convicting us when we wander, and continually showing us the way back to God.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” — John 8:12

If you were walking on a trail in the middle of the night without a flashlight, you probably wouldn’t get very far. But even a small light can help you see the next step. And that’s often how God works. He doesn’t always show us the entire path at once. He simply gives us enough light for the step right in front of us.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

This week, we’re focusing on what it means to shine the light of Jesus into the world around us. When you shine a flashlight into a dark room, you quickly realize what light does: it reveals what was hidden. In the same way, Jesus came to shine His light into the dark places of our hearts. Sunlight may brighten the world around us, but only Jesus can truly illuminate what’s happening inside us.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer.
It’s a day to pause and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to others. Their sacrifice reminds us that freedom is never free.

Today, we honor their courage, remember their families, and give thanks for those who laid down their lives for our nation. 🇺🇸

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” — John 15:13
