Meet Kirk of Batavia Creamery

For nearly 20 years, Batavia Creamery has been serving up sweet treats and hometown memories in Downtown Batavia. What started as a small ice cream shop has grown into a beloved gathering place where families celebrate milestones, teammates stop in after games, and friends catch up over a scoop of ice cream.

For owner Kirk Jansons, the ice cream business has been part of his life since childhood. At just 9 years old, he began helping at the Baskin-Robbins franchise his immigrant parents opened while both working full-time jobs. Summers, weekends, and years spent learning the business alongside his family eventually led Kirk to running the Downtown Batavia location when the family expanded there in 1991.

In 2006, Kirk launched Batavia Creamery, creating a locally owned shop centered around community, connection, and a true small-town atmosphere. This December, the Creamery will celebrate its 20th anniversary in Downtown Batavia!

Known for its huge variety of flavors, the Creamery rotates more than 150 ice cream flavors throughout the year while always offering 44 flavors in the shop, including non-dairy options. Customers also love the custom ice cream cakes for special occasions, Ice Cream Flights, nacho sundaes, and creative seasonal treats that keep people coming back year after year.

The Creamery has also become known for its fun community events like Ice Cream for Breakfast, Fill Your Stanley Cup days, National Ice Cream Day celebrations, and Chalk the Creamery Walls. Open year-round, seven days a week, the shop continues to bring people together no matter the season. Today, Batavia Creamery is about more than ice cream. It’s a place where people gather, celebrate, reconnect, and create memories.

At this month’s Batavia MainStreet Annual Meeting, we celebrated some heartfelt farewells and honored three incredible leaders whose contributions have helped strengthen programs, support local businesses, and continue building a vibrant and welcoming Downtown Batavia for everyone.

With deep gratitude, we said goodbye to board members who have served our community for a combined 30 years. Heading to the Batavia Farmers’ Market this Saturday? You may be wondering where to park. Check out the parking map before you go and plan your route in advance.

While you’re at the market, stop by Sweet Talk with City Council from 8 a.m. to noon. Meet your City Council members, share ideas or questions about the community, and enjoy complimentary donuts while supplies last.

The Batavia Farmers’ Market takes place Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon in downtown Batavia.
