WINGS OVER BATAVIA AIR SHOW ADDRESSES CANCELLATION OF WORLD AEROBATIC CHAMPIONSHIP
2026 Wings Over Batavia Air Show Will Take Place Sept 5-6 as Scheduled
BATAVIA, NY – The Wings Over Batavia Air Show today released the following statement in response to the announcement of the cancellation of the World Aerobatic Championships (WAC) that were scheduled to take place August 24 – September 2 at Batavia Airport:
“The Wings Over Batavia Air Show team is saddened to learn that the 2026 World Aerobatic Championships, which had been planned for Batavia, will no longer move forward as scheduled. While we share in the disappointment felt throughout the aviation community, we also recognize and appreciate the tremendous effort, time, and dedication that so many individuals contributed in pursuit of bringing this prestigious international event to our region.
“Although several individuals were involved in roles with both organizations, Wings Over Batavia Air Show and the World Aerobatic Championships planning committee are completely separate entities with independent operations, leadership, and planning responsibilities. Wings Over Batavia founders Pete Zeliff and Doreen Hillard served on the WAC host planning committee, and we are grateful for their hard work and commitment throughout the planning process.”
Said Pete Zeliff, founder of the Wings Over Batavia Air Show, “Like many throughout the aviation community, I’m deeply disappointed that the World Aerobatic Championships will not be moving forward in Batavia. A number of my close friends were incredibly passionate advocates for bringing this event here, and I know how much effort, energy, and heart so many people invested into trying to make it happen. It’s difficult anytime you see a vision like that not come together.”
“While this chapter is certainly disappointing, our focus now turns fully toward the future,” Zeliff added. “The entire Wings Over Batavia team is completely committed to making the 2026 air show the best one we’ve ever produced. We’re excited about what’s ahead, and we can’t wait to welcome fans back to Batavia Airport on September 5–6 for an incredible weekend of aviation.”
“We want to reassure aviation fans, sponsors, volunteers, and our community that the 2026 Wings Over Batavia Air Show will take place as scheduled. We are excited to welcome the U.S. Air Force F-16 Demonstration Team along with an outstanding lineup of performers and attractions for what promises to be an unforgettable weekend celebrating aviation.”
