What a truly magical opening night!

Our cast and crew poured their hearts into Disney’s Newsies, and last night’s audience brought an incredible energy to the Opera House. The standing ovation was unforgettable—but perhaps our favorite compliment of the evening came from someone who asked if we were a touring group! 😂 We’ll happily take that!

We could not be prouder of everyone who helped bring this powerful, joyful production to life. Opening night was everything we hoped it would be—and this is only the beginning!

CAST SPOTLIGHT
Samuel was recently in the BOH summer camp musical, Disney’s Dare to Dream. He would like to thank all of the cast for being so welcoming. This wonderful opportunity taught him so very much about acting. He is incredibly proud of everyone's immense dedication, steady hard work, and brilliant energy on stage during the production!

Gibson is no stranger to the BOH stage. You may remember him from Peter and the Starcatcher, Freaky Friday, W***y Wonka, A Christmas Chaos and Rented Christmas. He's also active in BOH's Youth Performing Arts Academy. Gibson enjoys video games, hanging out with his three cats and swimming. He thanks his family and friends.

Jude has participated in Dare to Dream & Finding Nemo Summer camps at the Opera House. Newsies is his favorite show & his first main stage show! When he’s not acting, he enjoys playing sports & video games. He thanks his cast mates, directors & family for all of their support & encourages you to “seize the day” & come see the show!

The cast is ready. The stage is set. And tonight, the newsies seize the day!

We’ll begin the evening by welcoming our incredible season sponsors to a special preshow reception—then it’s time for the curtain to rise on Disney’s Newsies!

Weeks of rehearsals, music, dancing, and hard work have brought us to this moment. We are so proud of this extraordinary cast and crew, and we cannot wait for Bastrop to experience the energy, heart, and sheer joy they’re bringing to the stage.

CAST SPOTLIGHT
Lana is delighted to make her main stage debut at the BOH. She has been part of the BOH Youth Academy for years and is excited to take the stage in Newsies. Her recent credits include Finding Nemo Jr. and Dare to Dream. Outside of the theater, Lana enjoys singing, dancing, and making bracelets. She extends her warm thanks to her family and friends for their support.

Coco is happy to make her BOH debut and very excited to help bring Newsies to life. She started dance classes at age two and stays busy with dance, vocal, and acting lessons. Although just 11, this is Coco's fifth full-length musical. One of her favorite roles was Marta von Trapp in The Sound of Music. She sends big hugs to her dads for their unending love and support.

Juniper began her acting journey at the Bastrop Opera House as a Munchkin in Oz the Musical. Since then, she has appeared in The Music Man, W***y Wonka, and 14 Youth Academy productions, including Newsies Jr. She is especially excited to share the stage with her dad once again in Newsies and is grateful for the love and support of her family and friends.

Harper is excited to be returning to the Bastrop Opera House stage! She previously appeared as Bielke in Fiddler on the Roof. She enjoys participating in the Youth Academy and would like to thank Ms. Jerrica for her encouragement and guidance. A huge thank you also to her family for always being the loudest applause in every audience.

CAST SPOTLIGHT
Blaise is thrilled to return to the BOH stage! He has previously been seen here in Freaky Friday, Newsies Jr., Finding Nemo Jr., Lost in Yonkers & most recently, Dare to Dream! He would like to thank his friends and family for their support! Enjoy the show!

Braja is fifteen years old, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and likes to dance, sing, act, draw, and partake in all activities you could think of. Newsies is her first main stage musical she’s performed in, but past school plays include Aladdin, The Jungle Book, and Anatomy of Gray. Her favorite musical is Ride The Cyclone, and she hopes to be cast in a production of it!

Phoebe is back at it again with their role as Elmer in Newsies! For the past 7 years, Phoebe has been performing at the Bastrop Opera House with many roles such as Violet in W***y Wonka and Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical Jr. When not on stage, Phoebe enjoys crocheting, sewing, and crafting with all sorts of mediums. Phoebe shares thanks to Mom for driving her to rehearsals.

Dayton is a student of the Bastrop Opera House Academy, making his main stage debut as a Newsie! He was “Boy” in The Girl Who Cannot Be Hurt most recently. With two little brothers also in Academy, there is always someone to run lines with. When Dayton is not on stage he is on the basketball court. Like Troy Bolton, “My head’s in the game, but my heart’s in the song.”

And we still have THREE DAYS before the curtain goes up.

CAST SPOTLIGHT
Diego is thrilled to make his second appearance at Bastrop Opera House as JoJo. He first performed on BOH's stage as an ensemble member in their production of RENT. Before Newsies, he played the role of a gypsy and congregant in Gaslight-Baker Theatre's production of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. He'd like to give a special thanks to all involved in putting this together.

Gabby is so excited to return in her second main stage show at the BOH! You may have seen her in Fiddler on the Roof last year, as well as various academy shows. She has participated with the youth company and attended the TNT youth conference in Paris, TX. Gabby is incredibly grateful for all the support and love that she has received from her friends and family.

Denali is stoked to be apart of Bastrop Opera House’s production of NEWSIES. This is Denali’s second year of performing at the Opera House. He has been acting and singing his whole life and has done theatre since middle school. He is super proud of his family and business Bastrop Goldsmith Silversmith and is happy to be on the stage again. :) He has pet pigs too.

Olivia is excited to be in the cast of Newsies! This is her second performance with Bastrop Opera House (the first being Fiddler on the Roof) and she can't wait to help bring the story to life. When not performing, she enjoys reading, writing, singing, and spending time outside. Newsies is one of her favorite musicals and she hopes to do her role justice in it.

CAST SPOTLIGHT
Hezekiah is excited to be making her Bastrop Opera House debut with this production. She has previously performed in Freaky Friday at McCallum High School, as well as Shrek the Musical with the AISD Summer Theatre Series. She would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their constant encouragement and support.

Laith is excited to return to the stage for his second main stage production. This 13-year-old homeschooler is no stranger to performing, having recently brought the character Jay to life in Lost in Yonkers. He would like to thank his family for their continued love and support of his passion for acting. When he is not on stage, Laith enjoys drawing, playing video games, tinkering with the guitar, and spending time with his family.

Gareth is over the moon to be joining such a talented cast for his Bastrop Opera House debut! He is just as excited to be in his first musical with tap since 2024. He is a TXST junior majoring in theatre, minoring in dance. He grew up in Lockhart around the Gaslight Baker Theatre participating in summer camps and mainstage shows. He has been volunteering (concessions, backstage, etc.) mentoring theatre camps, and performing at the Gaslight Baker ever since his first camp (over 10 years). Past productions include, Cheaper by the Dozen, Daughter of St. Nicholas, ELF, Vaudevilles, Matilda (where he was also the assistant choreographer, which was nominated for a BroadwayWorld Best Choreography Award), and The Candidate. He also had the pleasure of choreographing GBT’s kids musical camp where they put on Guys & Dolls Jr. this summer. Fun Fact: This is his second Alan Menken musical this year as he was in the Hunchback of Notre Dame choir at GBT in the summer! He wants to thank the production team for the opportunity to perform in one of his dream shows and encourages YOU to go and seize the day!
