Barn Arts presents MDI WINTER BEACH STORY - an island-wide community event to celebrate our shores by cleaning up trash and making art.

MDI WINTER BEACH STORY will begin after this snowstorm and last for one week. During this time, everyone on the island is invited to choose a part of the shoreline that means something to them and take the time to clean, sing, dance, paint, draw, or perform, and then share pictures and videos on social media.

Participants can use the hashtag to link together the community actions and creativity that make this island such a special place to call home.

And check out this still from the Barn Arts contribution to MDI WINTER BEACH STORY - a new music video that drops on social media tomorrow!

Today is a Saturday, that means the Barn should be filled with creative works that absolutely baffle the mind with chaotic energy. As of today, this would have been the year mark for me for many things. However, these pictures only tell the story in front of the lens and right now that's all we need. The story we tell today, not what could have happened, not what might happen tomorrow, its the way we respect today and can make the best of this one day set out in front of us.

Our Story

The Barn was built in 1887 and a hundred years later it was turned into Once Upon a Time - an antique store owned and operated by Doris Simon. The Barn was repurposed as a theater space in 2008 by Barn Arts co-founder Andrew Simon, Doris's grandson. In the last ten years, the space has featured performances of all kinds and hosted audiences of all sizes as it has become a center for community for locals and visitors to Mount Desert Island.

Barn Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization with a mission to bring people together.
