Unfortunately, we didn’t get much feedback from local families so there will not be a Rumstick Rd luminary this year—however, Bay Spring Community Center is doing a fundraiser for luminaries and many families are planning on putting them in their driveways. Please support our local treasure and help light up the community!

The Friends of the Bay Spring Community Center is pleased to host Luminary Night in Barrington. Held on the Winter Solstice in communities all across the country, whole neighborhoods line their driveways, walkways, entryways, and docks with luminaries as a simple and beautiful display of warmth and

Rumstick Road/Chachapacsett folks! We’re looking for interest in doing the Rumstick Road luminaries again this year. The town has said they need to be LEDs. One neighbor is willing to order them and help get them out—but a few more people would be needed to make it happen. Please message us if interested in helping!

Unfortunately, the police just told us we have to put them out because they saw one bag burning. We’re blowing them out—and will pick up the bags in the morning.

Hi all!
Thanks to the Spencers and Carolans, this is year 10 of the Rumstick Village Luminaries!

To take the work/effort off of one individual family, we’re going to break things up a bit and people can take responsibility for parts they feel they can manage.

Our family will be responsible for Rumstick Rd from County Rd to Thomas. The Blancos will take Rumstick Rd from Thomas to Ferry Rd. Anyone else interested in taking a section?

What does “being responsible for” mean? It means you’ll get the white paper bags (lunch size) and 10 hour votive candles and sand (Barrington beach is conveniently located near us?)—then, fold and sand the bags in preparation. At 3 pm or so on the 24th, you’ll head out with your family and neighbors and whoever else wants to help to place the bags every 10 feet or so on both sides of the street. Then place the candles and light them at 4/4:15 pm or so. (The sun sets at 4:19 pm.) And finally, in the morning on the 25th, before the festivities begin, you (and whoever else you want to enroll) will pick up the empty bags and dispose of them appropriately.

Obviously, there will be many other people who will help!

So, please reach out if you’re interested in taking on a section of Rumstick or a section off of Rumstick or if you’re interested in doing this somewhere else in Barrington.

If there was ever a time to spread the light, the time is now 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️

As I watch all the pumpkin spice everything roll out I realized some may not know that our family has once again relocated out of state. So the luminary tradition we started in Barrington may not continue unless others continue it. Should someone wish to take it on feel free to message me and I can send you the quantity and products that worked best all these years. 🕯️

It was extremely cold so we had to make the decision to start earlier for fear of it getting too cold if we waited. Our hands all froze as did our lighters but we got everything lit finally!
