More adventures arriving today...Kandodo - 2 releases ("started messing with a loop one winter solstice day, added loads of guitars, keyboards, cymbals, spamjos, bass, fuzz and fl**ge all in the key of the endless c/sea. removed layers and remodelled into these mixes, same but different"); Sueno Purpura - Souvenir (psychedelic shoegaze - magnificent!); Tokyo Flashback compilation ("Originally released in 1991 by Japan’s P.S.F. Records, Tokyo Flashback defined the breathtakingly unique and previously obscured musical movement that had been developing in Japan since the late 1970’s. The compilation features some of the earliest released recordings by Keiji Haino, High-Rise, Masaki Batoh’s Ghost, White Heaven, Fush*tsusha, Kousokuya and Marble Sheep. It captures the excitement and energy of a Tokyo awash in Technicolor and deep blacks; the music echoing Kraut-Rock, Psychedelic freak-outs, Garage and No Wave. At the same time it reveals astonishing, totally idiosyncratic expansions of rock music. In time, Tokyo Flashback expanded to a synonymous nine volume series that over the next two decades unveiled Japan’s ever-evolving soundscapes to the rest of the world.")

More new sounds to intrigue and delight. Mrs. Magician - Spiritual Hangover ("sun-soaked, hook-heavy power pop with a lyrical fixation on life’s darker undercurrents"); Lauren Lakis - Deadlights ("Indebted to shoe gaze and ’90s alt rock, its 10 tracks are filled with ethereal vocals, melodic guitars, and a heavy low end."; Rhododendron - Ascent Effort ("Drawing from the angular experimentation of underground rock in the 1980s and 1990s alongside elements of jazz, ambient, and progressive music, their compositions are deliberate with intensity. Riffs fracture and reform, rhythms lock into patterns only to break apart, and extended passages build pressure before shifting direction."); Ana Roxanne - Poem 1 ("A sublime, ethereal, downtempo dream-pop journey. Highly recommended"); Spirit Adrift - Infinite Illumination ("These songs have a palpable sense of malaise both spiritual and terrestrial, personal and universal, inflicted via crushing traditional Doom riffs, thunderous mid-tempo marches and Garrett’s impassioned vocal delivery. Heavy."); Sultans - Ghost Ship ("Sultans at their most harriest and thugish"); Radioactivity - Time Won't Bring Me Down ("Texas power pop punk...a true masterpiece").

It's May, which is try-some-new-sounds month at Scratched. How about the new album from Kneecap? ("The Belfast rappers blast through all the noise with the energy of The Prodigy, Massive Attack and Burial on Dan Carey-produced second album to cement their place and reclaim their identity." 4 1/2 stars - NME) or Gorillaz - Mountains? ("The animated band’s ninth album gathers collaborators both living and departed for a characteristically audacious monument to grief, India, and archival memory." - Pitchfork). or Julian Lage - Scenes From Above? ("Fifth Blue Note album by guitar virtuoso Julian Lage, the second made in collaboration with revered producer Joe Henry, and his first with a striking new quartet featuring keyboardist John Medeski, bassist Jorge Roeder, and drummer Kenny Wollesen."). or maybe the debut from Paris Paloma - Cacophony? ("The English singer-songwriter’s debut swings big, tackling themes of death and patriarchal oppression through earthy imagery and dense alt-pop arrangements."). All in stock this week, plus many more new sounds and adventures arriving all month.
