Specialized Sim Racing Socks / Hospital Grip Socks: A potential step up from daily socks, but do they actually offer enough padding for heavy braking forces?

Water Shoes / Barefoot Shoes: These seem like a good middle ground for thin soles, but the quality can be hit-or-miss.

The Best Bang for Your "Button Box" Bucks? (SimDT Pre-Review)

Since I started sim racing, I’ve always wanted a premium button box. However, it can be really hard to justify the price. For a long time, I just used an old tablet running SimHub to build my own dash, using some pretty cool pre-designed buttons from the Overtake website. I was happy with that setup for a while.
Then, I saw the PXN button box on AliExpress. If I recall correctly, it was actually labeled as a Moza box back then. It was going for around $90 with shipping, but I thought that was way too much, so I decided to wait. Later, someone told me they found a nice button box on AliExpress for only $46. By the time I had a chance to check it out, the price had already gone up to $70 and it was relabeled as PXN. I figured "might as well" and pulled the trigger. Even though it had a plastic, toy-ish look, it did the job pretty well. The only real issue was that the ignition sequence (which is what caught my attention in the first place) didn't work correctly sometimes, but it wasn't a big deal.
As time passed, I started wanting something better. I almost attempted to DIY my own, but I could never find the time. I decided to wait for something else to show up. Bavarian SimTec appeared in the sim racing scene, and they actually had something quite different, but it was way too pricey for my budget. I waited for a price drop to pull the trigger, but that never happened.
Last year, I saw the Heusinkveld Dash button box at the Simracing Expo. At first, I didn't love the overall look, but the digital labels were amazing. The seed started to grow on me, and I was finally ready to buy it when they announced a release date for August of this year. But then, they postponed it again (it was originally supposed to come out last late spring). I even messaged them after they announced a "last chance to take a look" at the Chicago Expo in September. Wait, what... postponed again, Dutch guys?!
So, I went back to old faithful AliExpress and came across the SimDT Button Box. I already own a Gear/Flag Display from the same brand that I snatched for $40 total a while back. It has a nice CNC case, looks really premium, and is one of those accessories in my cockpit that I'm genuinely happy to own. Using that experience as leverage, I figured their button box would deliver the same quality.
I scrolled through a couple of different models, and most were around $160 including shipping. But after digging deep down the infinite AliExpress rabbit hole, I found a shop that had one left for $119. I actually liked this specific version even more because it has a clean, plain faceplate, whereas the others had yellow lines separating the sections around the buttons.
In terms of construction, this thing is not a toy at all. The faceplate is real carbon fiber, and the case/shell, whatever they call, is solid, all-black aluminum. It measures 30 x 20 x 15 cm and weighs a hefty 1.5 kg. It features:
16 button inputs
6 encoders (with a total of 32 inputs)
3 toggle switches
1 ignition start button
It also comes with 2 sheets of decals for labeling and a VESA mount. (cables and all the crap necessary to install)
At roughly 1/3 of the price of the Heusinkveld dash—and with a much more realistic look—I pulled the trigger yesterday (08/25/2026) and decided to take a chance. I searched YouTube for videos but only found one from an Italian creator, Xander (I actually ended up subscribing to him). His video gave me confidence that this box will finally deliver what I’ve been looking for at a fair price. Honestly, I would have paid the full $160 if I hadn't found this deal just to make clear how I'd like it.
I checked back this morning to see if the seller had shipped it yet (he hasn't), but noticed the stock quantity in his shop went right back to 1, haha! So, if anyone wants to follow me on this purchase, there you go.

Real Motorsport Costs vs. Premium Sim Racing: Why do some gatekeep based on budget? 🏎️📉🎛️

Real-world motorsport is arguably the most economically exclusive sport on earth. Even low-level karting requires a massive financial commitment just to get onto the grid. Sim racing has completely revolutionized that dynamic. Today, companies offering direct-drive bases, load-cell pedals, and wheels for under $500 have opened the doors for absolutely anyone to experience high-level driving physics.

I firmly believe that giving more people access to this hobby is incredible. There are likely brilliant minds who could reach elite levels if given the opportunity, and seeing the creative DIY wood rigs, custom tablet dashboards, and smart modifications people build on a budget is fantastic.

However, there is a weird, bitter subset of the community that projects their personal financial stresses and real-world frustrations onto drivers who choose to invest their hard-earned money into high-end, premium gear. It's perfectly fine to optimize your rig within your budget, but trying to toxicly tear down another racer's experience or choice of hardware just because they worked hard to afford a high-end lifestyle choice is a bad look.

If someone else's high-end equipment makes you bitter instead of motivated, the issue isn't the hardware meta—the issue is the mindset. We are all here to escape real-world stress and enjoy racing, regardless of whether our rigs cost $300 or $10,000.

Is anyone else desperately waiting for the €334 Heusinkveld Button Box release? 🏎️🎛️⚡

I’ve been running an ultra-budget, sub-$60 PXN button box from AliExpress on my rig setup for a couple of years now. It gets the job done, but it is exactly what you pay for: an all-plastic construction, rotary encoders where you practically need to be blind to feel the detent clicks, and an engine start button that looks cool but can be a massive pain in the ass to map consistently in iRacing.

Ever since Heusinkveld showcased their new premium button box at the expo, it has completely grown on me. They originally announced a release timeline for this month (August), and I am 100% ready to pull the trigger on it. At an asking price of €334, getting a full aluminum CNC-machined enclosure, high-tactile buttons, crisp rotaries, an integrated touch screen display, and Heusinkveld's legendary engineering quality feels like an absolute steal.

However, a few days ago they posted an Instagram story showing a "last look" display and try-out session at the Sim Racing Expo in Chicago. Now I’m starting to worry if they are postponing the official launch or if it's still dropping this week. I replied to their story to ask for a release confirmation, but they haven't said a word.
