SAVE SECOND BASE — PEDALING WITH A PURPOSE 💗
TEAM MAGIC PEDAL COMPANY 💜
This September and October, something a little different is coming aboard the Magic Pedal Company.
We’re launching Save Second Base: Pedaling with a Purpose — a series of special rides and a community fundraising effort designed to do two things:
Raise awareness about cancer, screenings and taking care of ourselves — and raise some money to help local families who are already in the fight.
The name Save Second Base is meant to be a little fun. It’s a play on baseball, breast cancer awareness and maybe even a little of that 80s and 90s humor many of us grew up with.
But the reason behind it is very real.
There are very few families that haven’t been touched by cancer in some way. And when someone is fighting cancer, the battle doesn’t stop when they leave the doctor’s office.
There are mortgages and rent payments. Utility bills. Groceries. Transportation. Parents and spouses missing work to attend treatments or care for someone they love.
Sometimes just keeping everyday life moving becomes part of the fight.
That’s why Team Magic Pedal Company has chosen the Comunale Cancer Foundation as the beneficiary of our Barberton-area Save Second Base fundraising efforts.
Founded in 2006 in memory of Stephen A. Comunale Jr., the Foundation grew from a family’s experience with cancer into an organization that has now spent 20 years helping cancer patients and their families throughout Northeast Ohio.
The Comunale family would experience cancer’s devastating effects again with the loss of Stephen’s aunt, Amy Comunale Klein, and his mother, Jane Comunale. Today, their memories continue through a Foundation dedicated to helping other families through the journey.
And their roots and impact here in the Barberton and Summit County community run deep.
The Foundation provides direct financial assistance with things such as rent and mortgage payments, utilities and other everyday necessities. It also supports programs designed to restore some comfort, confidence and normalcy during treatment — including the Renewal Nook at Summa Health’s Barberton Campus and a free Wig Boutique through Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
We will be doing a full Community Spotlight on this incredible organization soon.
For now, we’re asking Barberton to help us get behind them.
We’re not pretending that a purple pedal bike is going to raise enough money to change the world.
But maybe together we can raise enough to make a difference in somebody’s world.
Here’s how you can join Team Magic:
💗 RIDE WITH US
Join one of our special $40 Save Second Base: Pedaling with a Purpose mixer rides during September and October. A portion of every seat sold will be donated to the Comunale Cancer Foundation.
💗 BRING YOUR COMPANY ABOARD
Turn an office outing into a team-building experience with a purpose. Book a private Magic Pedal Company tour and consider adding a $100 or greater donation to the Comunale Cancer Foundation.
We’d also love to feature participating businesses with photos and a Community Spotlight explaining why your team decided to get involved.
💗 SPONSOR A FAMILY
Maybe your company, organization or family knows someone going through cancer treatment right now.
Consider sponsoring a Magic Pedal Company experience for that family and some of the people they love.
Give them a couple of hours when the conversation doesn’t have to be about appointments, treatments or bills.
Let them cruise around Barberton, listen to some music, laugh together and make a good memory.
Sometimes a little normal is a pretty wonderful gift.
💗 JUST JOIN TEAM MAGIC
You don’t have to ride at all.
Throughout September and October, individuals and businesses can make donations to the Comunale Cancer Foundation through our campaign and become part of Team Magic.
We’ll also provide opportunities to contribute during our regular Magic Pedal Company tours.
Checks for charitable donations can be made payable directly to the Comunale Cancer Foundation, and we’ll recognize the individuals and businesses helping us build Team Magic throughout the campaign.
And we’re keeping the rides themselves simple.
No special T-shirt required.
Wear pink. Wear purple. Make your own shirt. Grab a crazy wig. Dress alike with your coworkers. Come exactly as you are.
We’d rather see those extra dollars go toward helping someone who’s fighting cancer.
So get your physical. Know your numbers. Talk with your healthcare provider about the screenings appropriate for you. And remind the people you love to do the same.
Then, if you can, ride with us, give with us, or help us give a local family a reason to smile.
