Our hats off this week for a remarkable woman that is a friend to many of us in town. Evie Coady has had a deep appreciation for all types of art & creativity for a long time. Sharing experiences, joining classes, and inspiring us all with exhibits and ideas she discovers along the way. Including how to turn some of these painted pages into other creations.* This moving-in-color experience of ‘mark-making’ is a process that we’ve enjoyed with Evie for a few years now. The prehistoric artist likely created the image by spraying ochre mixed with water over a hand flattened on the wall of a cave in Indonesia

As 2025 drifts on by, I want to take a moment to recognize a woman who was very dear to many, who passed earlier this year.
Sister Gabriele Uhlein.
Many years ago a friend recommended a book by Michele Cassou. Then an online search led me to Sister Gabe & her “Hope Studio” at the Christine Center in northern WI. And though I’d been saying most of my life, “I wish I had a room where I could paint on the walls,”these two women were my inspiration for exactly how my studio is set up today.
Sister Gabe was an incredibly wise, creative soul. Having already taken classes with Michele, Gabe excelled in her sharing guidance of this “judgment-free” creative process. She was so encouraging. And even helped connect me with new studio supplies.
I am truly grateful for Sister Gabe. And Michele Cassou. And for the creative freedom that continues to move from this way of “mark-making.” ❤️🖌️

Oh I just love it when moms & daughters come paint together in the studio. (Good friends too;) There’s a natural grace & genuine loving support that imbues the creative energy with great curiosity to explore fresh ways of playing in color. Often the mark-making is abstract, in symbols, organic & intuitive which is perfect for inspiring fresh perspectives & insight. These moments fill my heart with such joY. And even though I haven’t had my own mom in my life, times like these sure make me feel like I do. Thank You Painters! ☮️❤️🎨🖌️💫
