With much of the action work completed, I turn to preparing the piano for stringing.

Here's my approach to repairing the letoff rail buttons. How to remove the rusted frozen screw shanks? I tried some standard techniques first: a drop of penetrating oil and waiting a day or so. No help. Second: applying heat to the shank to swell the metal and perhaps break the bond. No help. So I went to a very old approach. I drilled a 3/16 hole as close as possible to the broken screw.
