PRESS RELEASE - Husson University Theatre
The best H.U.T. comedy show to date
CHECK, PLEASE
Husson University Theatre, or H.U.T., is a student-led theatre club. This activity is available for all students who enjoy live theatre. Students work together to produce a show that will later be performed for both the Husson and greater Bangor community. We produce new shows in the fall and spring semesters, which are chosen, directed and created entirely by students. H.U.T. began life last century, originally going by the name Husson Circle Players, and they performed in the Kaminsky, producing shows such as The Zoo Story, Alice in Wonderland, The Good Doctor, and The Bald Soprano, and many other shows. The Gracie Theatre was built in 2009 where Husson Circle Player’s was moved to the Gracie stage and the club became Husson University Theatre.
This semester's selection, Check Please, is a one-act, romantic-comedy written by Jonathan Rand. “Dating can be hard. Especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or your grandmother's bridge partner, or an amateur mime. Check Please follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse -- until they do. Could there possibly be a light at the end of the tunnel?”
Performing in Check Please is Hannah Boddy (Girl), Kade Hamlin (Guy), Caroline Beckwith (Louis, Phoebe, Pearl, Matt), Wegahta Berhane (Melanie, Tod, Brandon, Mimi), Lillian Mode (Ken, Mark, Sophie, Linda), and Bailey Arruda (the Waiter). Some of our cast are H.U.T. veterans, and some are making their Husson premiere in this production. The production staff includes Erin Cahoon (Director), Erin Bessey (Stage Manager), Melaine Wright (Lighting Designer), Christopher Duff (Sound Technician), Gracie Demchak (Props Master and Costume Designer), Kenneth Stack (Set Designer and Technical Adviser), and Jeri Misler (Student Adviser).
“Check Please is a wacky comedy that reflects the harsh realities of dating in a silly, farcical experience,” says stage director Erin Cahoon. “I’m so thankful to have a wonderful cast and crew that enjoys working on this play and makes every rehearsal and meeting a laugh riot.”
Performances will be on December 3rd, 7 pm-8 pm, December 4th, 7 pm-8 pm, and December 5th, 2 pm-3 pm. Doors will open half an hour before the performances start. They will be performed in the Black Box Theatre on the second floor of the Gracie Theatre. Everyone is welcome, but please be advised that for non-students, there is a fee of $5. We ask that you please wear your mask at all times inside the building.
Come laugh with us at the showing of Check Please.
