Red Giant is pleased to present The Right Hand Forgets the Left, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Ellie Works, opening Saturday, July 11th, from 6–9pm.

Works’ process is improvisational and accumulative, built from whatever is affordable and at hand: magazine images, oil paint, Dunkin’ cups, colored lamp shades, reproductions of 16th century paintings, chair legs. These materials are not so much selected as wrestled with, incorporated in response to the work as it develops. The resulting paintings are dense with contradiction, where icons, colors, desires, and found materials restlessly swap bodies and fold over themselves in ways that resist resolution. Works treats painting as a form that can sustain contradiction without falling apart, and finds in that capacity something close to a life ethic. Here doubt and discomfort are not obstacles to painting but its raw material.

Red Giant is excited to announce the opening of remember? remember., a solo exhibition by Shea Kister, on Saturday, July 11th, from 6–9pm.

Inspired by her study of trauma’s effects on memory and on personal and social relationships, Kister’s work enlists fragmentation, discontinuity, memory distortion, and dissociation through scale, surface, and mixed media. Explosions of spikes embedded in and breaking out of ceramic vessels give form to the ineffable, indescribable, in-between emotions that resist language. remember? remember. maps memory through the physical display of clouds as the inside of the mind, working to connect and organize the details of specific recollections. Alongside set memory map installations, viewers are invited to arrange and rearrange an interactive memory map, participating in their own recall and recognition.

Red Giant is excited to present Speaking About Something Else, a solo exhibition by Willa Richards.

At its most basic, Richards’ work places fictional figures in fictional spaces to build densely symbolic paintings. By giving metaphors enough space and dimension, she lets them become their own visionary worlds, muddying the waters between the purely allegorical and the speculative realities of what can and cannot be. Drawing on her own life, Richards explores cyclical time (life and death, past and future, history and futurology), queerness, grief, self-destruction, desire, and dreams. Her paintings favor systems that are permeable, diffuse, and vulnerable over ones that are closed, concise, and guarded.

Join us for the spring Bromo Art Walk on Thursday, May 14, from 5–9 PM! Explore exhibits, performances, and interactive experiences throughout the district. 

This spring, we’re showcasing ‘Shoring’ an exhibition featuring Bradley Milligan and Nicholas Wisniewski in addition to ‘In A Practice of Survival’ a solo exhibition of works by . It’s a great opportunity to meet the artists, explore the open studios, and experience the creative energy of the district firsthand.

The Art Walk is free and open to all. The main event runs from 5–9 PM, with an after party from 9–11 PM at !

With 30+ venues and 100+ artists, the Bromo Art Walk transforms the district into a multi-block arts experience you won’t want to miss.

In tandem with the opening of 'Double Take', Saturday will also feature the opening of 'post // Exhibit B' 3/28 from 6pm-9pm

‘post // Exhibit B’ explores the transience of the image in post-production. The exhibition features the work of Vivek Sebastian (post) in dialogue with colleagues Danka Latorre, Greg Meza, River Shell, and Edson Flores Zarate (Exhibit B). Together, these artists form a "school" of image-making defined by the disruption of the translated image and a collage-like layering of surfaces. The collection investigates the data lost and the artifacts gained as images migrate from digital projection to tangible pigment.

Please join us Saturday, 3/28 from 6-9pm for the opening reception of ‘Double Take’

‘Double Take’ is a curatorial collaboration with Red Giant’s current residents, Ellie Works, Shea Kister, and Isaac Kim. Presented in Red Giant’s new project space, the exhibition brings together six works: one selected by each resident from their own practice and one by a fellow artist of their choosing. Through this structure, the exhibition opens a space for dialogue across affinities, influences, and approaches, inviting conversation around how artists see one another’s work and position themselves in relation to a broader creative community.

Featuring Ellie Works, Shea Kister, Isaac Kim, Taha Heydari, Sonia Ruscoe, and Stacy Lund Levy

Thanks again to everyone who came out for the opening of The Bound and the Boundless and to all of you who have stopped in over the last few weeks.

You’ll have one last chance to see the show and we’d love to see you there for the closing reception on Saturday, March 14, from 6–8pm. Come spend more time with Sara Dittrich’s and David Page’s transformation of the Main Gallery, and join us for another live performance by David Page!

We’re also showing works on paper by both Sara and David as well as two paintings by Thiang Uk on view in Dessus Latrine Gallery!

The works presented in The Bound and the Boundless investigate how water surrounds and informs human existence. Water operates as a natural boundary in the form of rivers and oceans, while also constituting clouds, vast formations that define a seemingly boundless sky. The exhibition draws on these conditions to explore how water’s dual nature mirrors human capacities for peace and harmony as well as violence and control. The scale of this inquiry ranges from crimes perpetrated against migrants traversing imagined borders to the quiet, ongoing work of the pulse
