Pain don’t hurt, but missing this screening might.

Can I Kick It?: Road House
Wed, Jun 17 | 7:30 PM

Patrick Swayze kicks, philosophizes, and generally makes “bouncer-philosopher” feel like a legitimate career path in this gloriously absurd cult classic. As Dalton, the world’s coolest cooler, he brings zen, throat-ripping, and deeply committed hair to a small-town bar under siege by a local crime boss.

And because this is Can I Kick It?, the film gets scored live, scene-by-scene by DJ 2-Tone Jones, blending hip hop, soul, rock, and more into a one-night-only cinematic remix.

It’s ridiculous. It’s sincere. It’s absolutely perfect.
Come for Swayze. Stay for the soundtrack.

Home is not a place. It is a feeling you can return to.

You Can Always Come Back Home by twin artists Hope & Faith McCorkle is on view now through June 26. This immersive installation transforms the gallery into something that breathes like a living room, layered, intimate, and full of presence, built from large-scale mixed-media scrolls, domestic objects, inherited furniture, and participatory works.

At the heart is an altar made from their late mother Tonya Wendell McCorkle’s dinner table, alongside a meditative labyrinth and works that move between personal narrative and collective history. Rooted in Black feminist thought and bell hooks’ concept of homeplace as resistance, the exhibition asks a profound question: where is home when the world keeps moving and the people who made it are no longer here?

Watch this video with the artists, then come experience the space in person. It is what art can do at its highest purpose: turn a room into a refuge.

On view through June 26. Tue–Sat, 12–5. Free admission.

Today is the last day. 🦋

When The Butterflies Would Visit closes today, June 13. Last chance to spend time with this exhibition rooted in ecological reciprocity and community partnership, created in response to the environmental struggle in Guna Yala, Panama.

This project asks us to reckon with what extractive systems have washed onto shores and into bodies, and to imagine a different way forward, one built on relationship, responsibility, and care. Created in partnership with Yar Burba, an Indigenous ecological research center led by Favio and Desy Arosemena, the work holds a powerful truth: humans, jungle, sea, animals, and spirits form a unity. Everything is alive. Everything has energy.

And yes, today is your last chance to take one of the molas home. Snag one before they fly away.

Amythyst Kiah returns to Creative Alliance for an intimate solo performance on Fri, Jun 12 at 7:30 PM.

On her new album Still + Bright, the Tennessee-bred singer/songwriter explores the vast expanse of her inner world, from Eastern philosophies and spiritual traditions to a near-mystical connection with the natural environment, plus the hard-earned lessons of her self-described “anime-nerd mall goth” years. Produced by Butch Walker, the record blends revelatory storytelling with a darkly cinematic, rootsy alt-rock edge, fuzzed-out guitars and industrial-leaning beats alongside gilded pedal steel and Kiah’s exquisitely graceful banjo work.

If you like music that is fearless, grounded, and unafraid to tell the truth, come bear witness. Tickets are live.
