Thomasson Theater

Thomasson Theater A public art project curated by Katie Duffy, with works by L.E. Doughtie, Art Morrill, Allana Clarke with Joe Scanlan, Khadija Nia Adell, and Tanya Garcia.

The project works to reinvision moving image
works for the Thomason Theater installation
space, which is a second story door to nowhere
located at 426 west franklin street, on the west
side of property facing Paca street. The
nstallations are projection mapped into this
doorframe from within the studio on the 2nd floor. The project intends to grant artists with diverse
practices an opportunity to

experiment with new
mediums and alternative spaces, while
highlighting the historic architecture of the
Seton Hill neighborhood. The doorframe to nowhere, as well as the project
itself, is called The Thomasson Theater in
reference to artist Akasegawa Genpei
documentation of useless yet maintained pieces
of architecture. Akasegawa aptly named these
vestiges Thomassons after Gary Thomasson, an
“American baseball player who was traded to
the Yomiuri Giants, a team in Tokyo, Japan. Thomasson was paid exorbitant amount of money
for a two year contract. But in this new country,
on this new team, the great slugger Gary Thomasson lost his game. He actually set the all-time strikeout record in Japan in 1981, and was
benched for much of his contract. For
Akasegawa, Gary Thomasson was useless and
also maintained.”
