Baltimore, MD give weekly, one-on-one lessons to middle schoolers from the St. Founded in 2006 by then-undergraduate composer Kevin Clark on a volunteer basis, Junior Bach has been offered for academic credit since 2007, providing invaluable teaching experience for composers at Peabody and a meaningful creative opportunity for students at SILA and BLSYW. One of the first Junior Bach students was composer, vocalist, and music director Tariq Al-Sabir, who called the program “a catalyst for growth, not only in music but in life…it taught me how to connect the music in my head to the music on paper and in the concert hall.”

Friday's Junior Bach Program Fall Concert at the Peabody Conservatory will be dedicated to the memory of Julian Fruh (front row, second from left in the photo below). Julian was part of our program in the spring of 2018, when he was an eighth grader at the Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy in Baltimore. He wrote a terrific piece of music called "Beginner's Luck," which we'll be sharing at the beginning of tomorrow's show. It was a privilege to know and make music with Julian, and I hope you can join us in honoring him.
