SOMOS

SOMOS (Students Organizing a Multicultural and Open Society) We are Baltimore City College's Latinx and Immigrant Student Organization (revised 2019)

Our Mission Statement:

SOMOS is Baltimore City College’s minority student organization & was founded in May 2014. The word “somos” means “we are” in Spanish which signifies that every member lays down their personal experience to help build our missions. We are a multicultural group that welcomes all ethnicities, races, and sexualities. SOMOS tackles systemic issues of injustice in schools, the Baltimore community, and the nation through activism, solidarity with other partners, and raising awareness of students' rights.

$4,894!?!?! The way our community showed up for our families and students this weekend is beyond what words are able to express. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK to our village, our school, and our students who recognize the value in our work. Because of you, SOMOS has funding for 8 weeks of Intercambio meals AND enough funding to put on International Night. Because of you, families will go home with free language access resources, free childcare, and a free meal. Because of you, we can continue to make the world a better place. - SOMOS 🧡

This year, we found out that our grant funder can no longer cover food costs. Our community meal is a central part of our values. We want to make sure our student volunteers and our families get a healthy meal when they participate in Intercambio’s evening classes. We need to raise $1,500 by midnight on Monday, so we can make sure the show can go on for our fall Intercambio program. Please consider donating what you can here: bit.ly/SOMOSsupport
