TODAY is the last day! The JHU Barnstormers proudly present our 2024 Spring Musical, Heathers: The Musical.

Out final show date is as follows:
April 20 at 3pm

This show contains explicit content, themes of sexual assault, su***de, murder, death, homophobia, graphic violence, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, drug/alcohol use, sudden loud noises, flashing lights, and imitated gun violence. Please be advised before attending this production.

Tickets will be available at the door (for purchase with cash or J-Cash), though for capacity reasons, we ask that you purchase them in advance on Hopkins Groups with the link in our bio. Tickets are $8 for JHU Affiliates and $13 for Non-Affiliates.

The runtime is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission. Doors will open at 7:45 pm. All performances will be held in Arellano Theatre in Levering Hall on the Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus.

Senior Liesel Arauz Vallecillo is Veronica Sawyer and sophomore Pauline Ngigi is Veronica's understudy and ensemble (stoner) for Heathers: The Musical.

❤️If you could have a signature color, what would it be?
[Liesel]: Blue 💙 (But on a much more real level, probably green)
[Pauline]: Purple!

💚Which clique from an 80’s high school would you belong to?
[Liesel]: Nerd all the way!
[Pauline]: I think would defiantly be a choir nerd so like band geek adjacent?

💛How are you similar/different from your character?
[Liesel]: Very similar internal monologues/priorities! I would like to think I would see the red flags behind the cool trench coat, but I fear my high school situationship history disagrees with that.
[Pauline]: I think we both try to see the good in everyone and are probably going to always figuring out what it truly is to “fit in”. Lucky for me, though, I’ve had much better experiences with my friendships!

💙Favorite song from the show?
[Liesel]: Candy Store or Big Fun (the vocals and dance EAT)
[Pauline]: It’s a tie between I Say No and Dead Girl Walking, both are absolutely iconic in their own right and Liesel absolutely kills it every time

[Liesel]: " It’s more like the Heathers are people I work with and our job is being popular and s**t."
[Pauline]: "Lick it up, baby. Lick. It. Up."

💚Why should people see the show?
[Liesel]: Script/music: iconic!; Actors: Insanely talented!!; Tech: Cooking!! Fr a show you would not want to miss, it’s wildly entertaining and fun!
[Pauline]: It’s Heathers! It’s iconic, hilarious, full of so many twists and turns, insane vocals, and brought to life with so many amazing people that you simply can’t miss it.

❤️If you could have a signature color, what would it be?
[Leo]: Orange (specifically cantaloupe, aka the best fruit)
[Amaiya]: I think I pull a mean green, in a very earthy “we are the world” kind of way

💚Which clique from an 80’s high school would you belong to?
[Leo]: That guy who plays guitar and kinda does his own thing
[Amaiya]: I’m a nerd at heart, but when you look at me it’s giving grunge man

💛How are you similar/different from your character?
[Leo]: Smooth, mischievous, devilishly handsome, oh yea and JD’s not too bad himself.
[Amaiya]: Problematic male leads call to me like the green goblin mask. I’m just a teenage heartthrob like S***t Ulrich in Scream; except, I don’t kill people.

[Leo]: My instinct goes with “Meant to Be Yours” but in another world I just know I would eat up that “Candy Store” choreo…
[Amaiya]: Meant to Be Yours... I’m sat, popcorn in hand

[Leo]: It’s gotta go to “Smell how gangsta you are”
[Amaiya]: "Does your mommy know you eat all this crap?..."

💚Why should people see the show?
[Leo]: It’s dark comedy and satire at its finest and the cast has brought this show to life. The soundtrack has etched itself into my soul, and oh yea, come see me become a psycho in a trench coat.
[Amaiya]: Guys... the Vocals... 10s across the board... the Comedy... boots the house down... the Dancing... both shade and tea... the Fights... you better get ready for the fights

Yellow!

Are you really a Hopkins student or theatre kid if you don’t have a little nerd in you?

💛How are you similar/different from your character?
We both get very emotionally attached very easily and try to be optimistic in life! But I definitely hold more grudges than she does...

My red flag is loving JD’s songs- Meant To Be Yours lives rent free in my head!

I don’t think any of them are promo-appropriate but this show is so funny!!

💚Why should people see the show?
The themes of Heathers are honestly more important than ever right now. Also this show is peak musical theatre and our star-studded cast never misses!! Plus our tech team is fantastic and I get a whole piñata (not as fun as it sounds)!

❤️If you could have a signature color, what would it be?
I don’t really have a signature color in my wardrobe, but my room is very pink/cream so maybe that (alternatively, just all black)

💚Which clique from an 80’s high school would you belong to?
When I played High School Story as a kid (anyone else?) I would always pick “Preppy” as my starter but I was waiting to unlock Glee Club. However, according to Buzzfeed, I am a rebel 😎

💛How are you similar/different from your character?
I’d like to think I’m a lot nicer than her! I think we share a lot of the same traits and insecurities, but we handle them very differently. I was never popular, but I did do yearbook senior year!

Meant To Be Yours

💛If you could have a signature color, what would it be?
Maybe that obnoxious teal everyone was painting their bedroom walls in 2015

💛Which clique from an 80’s high school would you belong to?
Okay, I’ve thought a lot about this. You know in the movie Midnight Madness where the red team is comprised of these absolute nerds, but they’re, like, really annoying and snooty about it? That’d be me 🙏🤩

💛How are you similar/different from your character?
We’re not super similar, but we do both struggle with childproof caps

💛Favorite song from the show?
Never Shut Up Again!! The choreography is so fun and, as a professional yapper, I really connect with the title

💛Favorite line from the show?:
Any mention of “my buddy Kurt” kills me every time (shoutout to Finnigan for the best line delivery imaginable)

💛Why should people see the show?
Because no matter how bad of a day you’re having, Veronica is having a worse one and that’s so inspiring ❤️ (Also everyone has worked so hard and the cast is so talented and it’s gonna be such a fun cool time!!)

[Kenneth]: Cyan
[Finnigan]: Sage Green

💚Which clique from an 80’s high school would you belong to?
[Kenneth]: I would probably categorize myself as someone who would be in the nerd clique.
[Finnigan]: I think from first glance it is pretty obvious that I’m a nerd at heart

💛How are you similar/different from your character?
[Kenneth]: would say we are VERY different, both in terms of our interests and the way we carry ourselves. I would also like to think I’m much nicer.
[Finnigan]: We are both accused of being gay, except I am actually gay

[Johnny]: black
[Lesley]: Blue, just like Veronica.

💚Which clique from an 80’s high school would you belong to?
[Johnny]: nerd. The math major is coming for you.
[Lesley]: Nerd; I spent way too much time playing quiz bowl (still do), and I am a chemistry major now.

💛How are you similar/different from your character?
[Johnny]: Unfortunately I do not have the fishing skills of a 50 year old ex-football player dad
[Lesley]: I think we both respond to injustice very strongly, even though we have very different responses (you’ll see), but I do NOT enjoy fishing.

[Johnny]: Meant to be Yours
[Lesley]: Big Fun, because it is an incisive analysis on the habits of unsupervised high schoolers in the 80s ... and it’s fun!

[Johnny]: " So very."
[Lesley]: “I think that’s what they call third base.” (pointing to something definitely not third base).

💚Why should people see the show?
[Johnny]: The plot is so peak and it is quite funny. OG heathers was a classic, and I think the musical is even better.
[Lesley]: The score and text are a classic, and everyone in the cast elevates the source material with their experiences. And besides, don’t you want to float above it all?

Blue!

💚Which clique from an 80’s high school would you belong?
Most likely a nerd or “plain Jane” + choir kid.

💛How are you similar/different from your character?
We both get excited about our passions, but Ms. Fleming definitely takes it a step too far. She reminds me of the schoolteachers who took dress codes WAY too seriously.
