Excited to see my article make the October issue of SchoolArts and Davis. Here are some screenshots from the article focusing on The Gift of Giving. In addition to the lesson focusing on perspective (2-point) and creating value with paint, the lesson asked students to consider how giving out of love and appreciation, without tangible items, is in itself rewarding. The inclusion of image and text (typography) was another area of focus for the students to include in their work.
I encourage any of my art colleagues to consider writing for SchoolArts and Davis. I do it for self-reflection so that the next time I teach the unit, I can work out the kinks. The written reflection, in turn, reads like an article, so I decided to submit it. Several of the articles I have written have changed since publication because I have identified areas for improvement.
Plan, implement, reflect, and repeat :)
Not to mention, the students love seeing their work in print!
