Since 1980 Baltimore Clayworks has grown to include 12 resident artists and 20 or so associate artists. We've been blessed to have 23 to 26 trustees at any given time and 15 full time, part time, and contractual staff members. We engage more than 25 instructors, 20 interns and work-study students, dozens of volunteers and hundreds of donors, all of whom make Clayworks a unique, vibrant and community-centered institution. Our exhibitions showcase the best of international, national and local ceramic artists working in ceramic sculpture, pottery, installation and conceptual ceramics. Today, our educational programs which began with 40 dedicated individuals, teach the discipline of ceramics to more than 1200 students on our Mt. Washington campus, and through our nationally acclaimed satellite programs, reach 500 children and senior adults in Baltimore’s most challenged neighborhoods. Clayworks' educational program is led by artists who are both locally treasured and retain high national profile in the field of ceramics.

Seeking Applicants for Johns Hopkins University Program in Visual Arts Adjunct Instructor

Instructor pay - $6000 per semester

The Program in Visual Arts, the undergraduate art program at Johns Hopkins University, is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach one section of Introduction to Ceramics during the Spring 2027 semester. The successful candidate will have an MFA in Ceramics and experience teaching foundation level ceramics courses to undergraduate students, particularly non-art majors. The candidate must have teaching experience at Baltimore Clayworks where the class will be taught. The candidate should have experience with both hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques and be comfortable developing and teaching a college-level ceramics curriculum. Experience with Canvas, the university’s online learning platform, as well as syllabus development and course management, is expected.

Thank you to everyone who came to the reception of "Shared Offerings," a solo exhibition by Ali Saunders, 2024-27 Long-term Resident Artist. "Shared Offerings," on view now through October 31, 2026, is about the parallels in relationships between objects and people. The show will feature objects exhibited in sets, pairs, and groupings that suggest connection and invite the viewer to observe familial links. The patterns on the vessels are representations of the exchange between mother and child and the ways images can be holders of emotion, conversation, and legacy.

"Fire Fest 2026 is almost here, and we need our community to help make this year’s celebration one to remember! Join us Saturday, October 17, from 5:30 - 8:30 pm for an evening of live firings, music, food, the Clay Olympics, hands-on activities, and plenty of fire. Volunteers are an essential part of making Fire Fest possible and keeping this beloved community event free and open to the public. Volunteer opportunities include helping with event setup and cleanup, welcoming guests, supporting activities, assisting with the Clay Olympics, and more.
