What makes an insect an insect? 🐞 In basic terms, all insects have three body segments, six legs and a hard exoskeleton. Insects grow by molting, and most are beneficial for environments and, by extension, for humans. 🦋 Currently, about one million insect species have been discovered, but scientists estimate there could be millions more. 🔍

It's Father's Day, and we're presenting these desert gobies as one of the most dedicated (and toughest) dads around. 🌵🐟 These fish inhabit harsh Australian desert springs and waterholes and can survive salinity up to three times that of the ocean. Male gobies attract females by using their bright colored fins and performing courtship displays. The female departs shortly after laying eggs, leaving the male to protect his offspring from predators and ensure they get enough oxygen by fanning them with his pectoral fins. 🥚

Help us help sea turtles! 🐢 Zoos and aquariums are often on the frontlines of rescuing and rehabilitating sick and injured sea turtles. We conduct the research that informs policy, and we send healthy sea turtles back into the ocean. 🌊

Dozens of organizations are fighting to pass an updated version of the Sea Turtle Rescue Assistance and Rehabilitation Act, which will offer more stable support for rescue programs. Find ways to help at the link below. Happy ! 💚

All activities shown are conducted under U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service permit 70312D.
