A performance by the Sankofa Dance Theater is an event that stands alone….. perfect as a celebration of African heritage, or a tribute to multicultural diversity. The company presents the drumming, dancing, music, songs, and stories born of the traditions of Africa in a format choreographed for stage presentation…with colorful, vibrant, artful costumes that are skillfully designed and crafted to take you on an imaginary journey to the "Motherland". The Sankofa Youth Arts Program effectively brings joy and professionalism to work with children by infusing the art forms of dance, storytelling, crafts, and song with language, math, logic, and science to improve the quality of education and life among young people. The Company began its African Study and Cultural Tour Program in 1996 to train its core base of performers. Since that time, Sankofa artists have reached a level of expertise that is unparalleled. As a testimony to its excellence, those trained by the Company are sought after by local art organizations and educational institutions.
