A huge THANK YOU to all our amazing donors, sponsors, businesses, families, volunteers, and community supporters who helped make 901 Arts’ 20th Anniversary Celebration possible! Your generosity helped bring our anniversary mural and celebration to life while supporting the creativity of our YouthWorks artists.
Most importantly we want to honor 901 Arts’ co-founders, Ms. Eleanor Montgomery and Mrs. Debra Evans. Your vision dedication and commitment to the Better Waverly community laid the foundation for the work we continue today. None of this would be possible without you and the legacy you created. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate this incredible milestone.

Join us on Thursday, July 30, from 5:30–7:00 PM for the official mural unveiling. After an incredible summer of creativity, collaboration, and community, we're proud to celebrate 20 years of 901 Arts serving the Better Waverly community by completing our anniversary mural! 🎨✨

This mural represents the dedication, teamwork, and passion of our Youthworks mural team, and we couldn't have done it without our community's support. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped bring this vision to life!

Celebrate with us, meet the mural team, hear directly from the artists about their creative journey, and honor the lasting legacy of 901 Arts.

We can't wait to celebrate with you!

Dear Community,

901 Arts has had an incredible 20 years. We are so proud of what our youth, teachers and staff have accomplished. After 20 years, co-founders and board members, Debra Evans & Eleanor Montgomery, and director (of 18 years), Sarah Tooley, are ready to plan their transitions from 901. We commit to keeping 901 open through the end of the 2026-2027 school year. What happens next is yet to be written. We want the process of either ending 901, bringing on new leadership or inviting in a new program to 901 Montpelier Street to include you, our community. We are hosting two sessions to kick things off.

Session 1: What?!? 901 Arts Is/Might Be Ending?? Q’n’A
Hear more information from Sarah, Debra & Eleanor, ask questions, share your feelings.
Tues Aug 4th, 5:30-7PM @ 901 Arts

Session 2: Meet, Greet ’n’ Dream Together
Neighbors, artists, musicians, youth development workers, other non-profit leaders, community groups come to connect, scheme, plot and envision what might come next.
Mon Oct 5th, 5:30-7:30PM @ Waverly Enoch Pratt Library

RSVP (helpful but not required) at http://901Arts.org/changes A reminder will be sent prior the event for those who RSVP. Sessions will be co-facilitated by Monique Meadows (Banyan Coaching and Consulting) and Miriam Avins (Avins Consulting), both long time neighborhood residents and friends of 901 Arts.

Thank you for the past 20 years of making magic. Updates will be post to: http://901Arts.org/changes

With love and admiration,
Debra Evans, Eleanor Montgomery and Sarah Tooley

PS We don't have capacity to respond to comments and DMs but are leaving the comments open if you wanna show some love 💜 We are hosting the in person sessions to answer questions and created the landing page on our website to post updates.

Thank you to our special visitors from Fluid Movement! We helped create some otterbein cookies for their new Candyland show! It was difficult but we dove into the challenge headfirst 🏊🏽‍♀️

Hey, we’re 4 weeks into our mural process, it’s been so much fun, everyone has learned so much as a group and individually and we would love for yall to come this Wednesday July 22nd from 4:30-6:30pm (behind the Giant) to see how it’s coming along and to join us for our community paint day. A day where the community picks up a paintbrush and helps continue the painting. We can’t wait to see you soon! 🤗

Hope you can come see our youth shine in this fantastic group show at MICA and hear our 901 drumline perform at the opening festival! Here are some sweet pics from us at it last year 🤩
You don't want to miss this as it is the *last year* this festival and show will happen 😢 After 20 years in partnership with the Community Art Collaborative (CAC's founding is entwined with ours), MICA has decided to close the program at the end of the term (Aug 14th) despite being award another year by the Federal government (so won't be accepting those funds). Yet again this will leave us an art center with no art teacher, scrambling to figure out how to fund an art teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. We haven't received any explanation from MICA as to why they are choosing not to continue the program. A truly devastating loss to so many youth of Baltimore, the Baltimore community arts scene and the truly unique MFA in Community Arts program at MICA that partnered with CAC. Your support at this time is truly valued, appreciated and needed.
