Amy Sherald ’04 and Leslie King Hammond recently sat down with CNN to talk about their friendship, which started during their days at MICA. Hammond was there throughout the journey, offering Sherald guidance and support. Those little moments were captured beautifully by Hammond’s son Rassann Hammond. He and Ben Baker-Lee have summarized the lasting impact of Hammond’s career in the documentary, A Life in Art: Through the Eye of Dr. Leslie King Hammond.

For Sherald, the documentary brings to light how many people Hammond mentored at MICA and how that experience continues to impact the art world today.

“You’re so much to so many people, and you hold so much wisdom. You’ve opened so many doors for people and taught us how to keep those doors open for artists who are coming after us.” View the full story on CNN: https://mica.ly/sheraldhammondcnn
