Residents of Bambili were left shocked on Wednesday afternoon after a young man, believed to be in his early 30s, walked naked from Three Corners through ENS Street to the main gate of the University of Bamenda.

The unusual scene attracted a large crowd, including students, traders and road users, causing movement in the area to be disrupted for several minutes.

Many people initially believed the man may have been mentally unstable. However, some young men confronted him along ENS Street and questioned him before reportedly beating him and chasing him away.

Witnesses said the man later put on his clothes while apologising to the crowd before fleeing the scene.

The incident has since sparked widespread speculation in the area, with some residents alleging that his actions may have been linked to rituals for wealth or a desperate search for quick money. However, there is no official confirmation to support these claims.

The incident has nevertheless revived public debate in Bambili about the growing obsession with quick wealth, unverified spiritual practices and the dangers of mob justice.

Breaking News: The bodies of three men were found lying on the road in Up Station, Bamenda, on Monday morning, after they were shot dead.

The circumstances surrounding their killing remain unknown. It is not yet clear who carried out the killings or what may have led to the men being targeted.

The discovery has caused fear and shock among residents in a city that has repeatedly witnessed similar scenes since the start of the Anglophone crisis.

Killings, abandoned bodies, and unexplained deaths have become a recurrent issue in Cameroon, particularly in the North West and South West regions, where civilians continue to pay a heavy price for years of insecurity.

Authorities are expected to clarify the circumstances of the killings, identify the victims, and ensure accountability.

It is not only at the local level that the devastating fire incident at the Bamenda Regional Hospital appears to have been ignored. The silence now extends to the national level.

More than twenty-four hours after the fire destroyed several offices and vital records at the hospital, Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health, Dr Manaouda Malachie, has still not issued any public statement on the incident.

The blaze caused extensive damage to the hospital’s multipurpose centre, affecting key offices and services including Medical Records, Human Resources, Medical Statistics/ICT, the Chaplaincy, the Library, and other administrative departments.

Although no deaths have been reported and patient care has continued, many are questioning why such a serious incident at one of the North West Region’s most important health facilities has not received any public response from the country’s top health official.

For a fire that destroyed vital hospital offices and records, is it too much to expect a statement, a visit, or at least some reassurance from the Ministry of Public Health?
