We begin Black Canni with Kemetic Yoga because this convening is about more than cannabis. It is about community, culture, healing, and ancestral memory.

Before policy.
Before business.
Before strategy.

We breathe.
We move.
We ground.
We remember.

Kemetic Yoga reconnects us to African traditions of intentional movement, breath, balance, and spiritual alignment. It reminds us that our communities have always carried knowledge about healing, plants, ceremony, and collective care.

That wisdom was disrupted—but it was never erased.

We already know. We just have to remember.

That is the through line of Black Canni: reclaiming what was stigmatized, honoring what sustained us, and bringing ancestral wisdom into conversation with today’s knowledge, data, healing practices, and community power.

Because repair is not only economic or political.

Repair is cultural.
Repair is spiritual.
Repair lives in the body.

The War on Drugs damaged more than individual lives. Criminalization disrupted families, drained resources from neighborhoods, and weakened the spaces where communities gather, create, and care for one another.

Repair takes more than a change in law. Arts and community development help restore what was lost by preserving cultural memory, creating places of belonging, and putting community voices at the center of reinvestment.

André Robinson brings that lens to Black Canni’s Remembering & Repair Circle. His work across film, theater, and community development invites us to ask: What can we rebuild when the people closest to the harm shape the spaces and stories that come next?

Legalization, medicinal use, social media and changing attitudes have transformed what young people see, hear and believe about cannabis. Parents, educators, social workers and community members need honest information to support conversations grounded in safety, health and trust—not fear or stigma.

The Truth About Teens & Cannabis moves beyond whether young people use cannabis to explore why. Together, we will discuss the developing brain, culture, access, stigma and the environments shaping young people’s choices.

The session will be facilitated by Jessica Lewis, MS, BSN, RN, a registered nurse with more than seven years of emergency room and surgical care experience and a master’s degree in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics.

Black Canni is about more than cannabis. It is about culture, community, memory, repair, education, healing, and economic possibility.

Our work is grounded in the belief that communities most impacted by cannabis criminalization must be more than consumers in a new industry. We must be architects of what comes next—shaping the conversations, building the businesses, protecting community health, honoring legacy knowledge, and creating pathways for ownership and opportunity.

From cannabis education and harm reduction to workforce development, ancillary entrepreneurship, housing, healing, and community reinvestment, Black Canni creates space to connect the dots.

And on October 3, we are bringing that work together at Cannabis: Community, Culture & Ancestral Memory in Baltimore.

We’ll gather for the Remembering & Repair Circle, honest conversations about youth and cannabis, plant medicine, wellness, culture, community development, and the strategies needed to repair what criminalization disrupted.

We already know. We just have to remember.
