Baltimore peeps. This Friday (4/19) join us for THE PEOPLE'S PARY: MUSIC, HEALTH, & COMMUNITY IN BALTIMORE, a FREE outdoor concert event featuring Baltimore soul/funk diva Gisele Jackson, bestselling author D. Watkins, and Baltimore MCs Son Brave and Rodney Jay. Representatives from local community organizations and from Johns Hopkins will be on hand to share info about community health resources and ways that you can get involved and support their work. The creators of the RJCS are excited to announce THE PEOPLE'S PARTY: MUSIC, HEALTH, & COMMUNITY IN BALTIMORE (Friday, April 19th 3-6pm in 'Eager Park' in Baltimore's historic Middle East neighborhood)

Come out for a FREE, outdoor concert event featuring Gisele Jackson and Club 54 (classic soul, funk, disco/dance), best selling author D. Watkins, and Baltimore MCs Son Brave and Rodney Jay. Between acts representatives from Baltimore community organizations will share information about their advocacy work and ways that you can get involved to promote community health and well-being. These include Fayette Street Outreach Organization, Baltimore Redevelopment Action Coalition for Empowerment), OWEL (Older Women Embracing Life), and Black Running Organization.

In addition, representatives from Johns Hopkins' School of Public Health, Center for Social Concern, and others will share information about community health resources. These include community-based learning opportunities, sexual health supplies, informational brochures, and other community-university collaborations. We hope to stengthen and contribute to collaborations between Johns Hopkins affiliates and community members by amplifying grassroots organizers and their efforts to advance health equity.

Food trucks will be onsite for folks to purchase food at their discretion. There will also be entertainment for children and adults. Please join us!

We will perform in support of Baltimore-based non-profit Black Arts District, which works to empower Black creatives and revitalize West Baltimore through culture, arts, and entertainment. The performance is produced by Johns Hopkins’ Racial Justice Concert Series.

The Racial Justice Concert Series will be hosting its first IN PERSON event on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022 at 7:30pm featuring Baltimore’s Noah Pierre & Band, a collective of young and upcoming local musicians from all over the DMV who will bring their unique blend of rock, soul, and jazz to the Sculpture Barn at the American Visionary Arts Museum. Called “the best museum in Maryland” by USA Today, AVAM opens its impressive and whimsical Sculpture Barn for this one-of-a-kind event. The concert is jointly hosted by NOAHCON, the annual conference of the National Organization of Arts in Health.

The Racial Justice Concert Series (RJCS), a collaboration among Johns Hopkins students, faculty, and staff, harnesses the power of music to bring awareness to issues of racism in Baltimore, and to support Baltimore organizations that focus on racial justice work. The RJCS features performances by Baltimore musicians and provides a platform for racial justice organizations to educate audiences about their efforts. Noah Pierre & Band will perform in support of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), an organization that provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture and other immigrants to thrive in Baltimore and around Maryland. The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors and local volunteers to help refugees and immigrants integrate and contribute to our communities.


The RJCS is cooperatively produced and funded by the Johns Hopkins Program in Arts, Humanities, & Health, Johns Hopkins Center for Music and Medicine, and Johns Hopkins International Arts + Mind Lab.


COVID Guidelines: Masks are recommended for all guests but will remain optional.
