Got to attend Master Class ā€œThe Current State of Rap Practice: Process and Pedagogy at the . It was dope to see him break down rap into a mathematical equation and the reason why. What I found most interesting was his thought process of creating his rhymes. We were blessed for him to show his process by taking an object heā€™s never seen and make a rap about it. His practice he created is called Ghoting (also known as Fishing) where you go outside, observe an object or surrounding and rap about it. Itā€™s like when painters go outside to paint. You canā€™t capture the same experience or feel when youā€™re inside the studio. Since he couldnā€™t take us outside he and took a random object and put some bars together over a beat (aka bait). Seeing this was a whole dope experience while he talked through his thought process while recording it live.
What was more dope was I got to give him his flowers by gifting him an art piece I made. Created in 24 hrs when I heard he was going to be teaching early this month. I wasnā€™t able to gift it to him since the capacity of the venue was limited but I made sure I got it to him today! The art itself is illustrating all of his discography as rapper, from mixtapes to albums. I would listen to all of his music while I did art in school and still do. For someone who inspired me as a teen and still does to this day as an artist, today was a good day.
