Thumper's Bar

Thumper's Bar Thumpers is a great place to grab an affordable drink after work with THE coldest drinks in the Bay. We look forward to meeting you.

Thumper's recently underwent interior renovations with more improvements scheduled over the next 12 months. We pride ourselves as being a place that can host large events, birthday parties, and bands with one of the largest capacities in the area. With a unique four sided bar, you won't need to wait 3-4 people deep to get a drink. We have four billiard tables, CORNHOLE leagues every Thursday evening, and KARAOKE every Saturday evening. We now accept all major credit and debit cards.

Today we highlight the USCGC Papaw. Commissioned on October 12, 1943, she saw extensive duty during WWII as an aid to navigations systems for the captured islands in the Pacific. After the war, Papaw was assigned to the Florida Keys and the Caribbean assuming responsibility for navigational aid.

In 1954, Papaw was moved to Charleston, SC under the command of future Commandant of the Coast Guard RJ Papp. She maintained buoys, shore stations, and towers for the next 35 years where she then entered the Service Life Extension Program at the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay which is how we came to adorn the patch on our wall.

The Papaw was decommissioned on July 23, 1999, but is still in operation to this day as an emergency relief ship as part of the Friend Ships fleet, a non-profit organization, under the name F/V Mersea.

As we welcome Fleet Week to Baltimore, we want to take a moment to recognize the rich history our building has had with the military fleet and the patches and accompanying signatures that adorn our walls. Today, we recognize the USCGC Rockaway or better known as the Rock.

Originally built for the US. Navy and commissioned on January 6, 1943, the ship primarily operated in the Atlantic. During WWII she operated nine secret transatlantic missions with her home base being Norfolk, Virgina. On one of those missions, the Rockaway delivered secrete radar equipment to England for the invasion of Normandy.

In 1948, the Rockaway was loaned to the US Coast Guard to be used as a weather reporting ship. She was stationed at Governors Island in New York which remained her home port the remainder of her career where she ultimately was decommissioned on January 29, 1972.

We welcome all to check out these amazing pieces of history when you visit Thumpers.
