Take a moment to listen to the beautiful chime of this newly created Val Bertoia sound tree! With crisp, clear resonance, B-3027 brings serenity and a quiet mind to any space. It's currently available, please use the jotform link below to contact us for pricing and info. Standing roughly 33" tall x 33" wide, it's a sizable sculpture and a one-of-a-kind design for the studio. The heavy base is crafted from an original old-stock Harry Bertoia stainless steel plate, the likes of which can be found in many of his works from the 1960s.This sculpture also has an adjustable height for each layer of beryllium copper flat bars. Like a self-performing soundscape, Val continues to find new ways to combine the healing vibrations of unusual materials with sculpture.

From hand drawings, to scale models, to the real thing. Bertoia Studio holds many stories and these two make up a beautiful one. Twisted tubing with a beautiful patina forms these sculptural chairs, creating the perfectly scaled set. They're an unusual design by Val, who is always in search of new ways to take a seat and enjoy nature and sound. Harry Bertoia started a legacy of chair design right in his home town of Bally, Pennsylvania and new designs and inspirations are still brought to life every day in that very same studio.

The humoroids make another appearance! This little fella was cut from heavy brass by Val and mounted onto one of Harry's vintage melt-metal bronze tiles to complete the scene. These tiles were used in countless works by Harry Bertoia in projects from the 1970s and this leftover piece got to be part of a new story (now created over a decade ago). Val has always admired his father's creativity with textured metals and this piece took that to a new level, combining their work into one piece. Where's he going? What's on his mind? Guess you'll have to ask him on a tour of the studio!

Created in 1996, this scale chair model was formed as a prototype from bent copper and titled B-973 'Chair of Tubings" by Val. He made a whole selection of these small chairs as scale prototypes, some of which were made into the full size and some which will remain a concept. This one was never created in full scale but it sure deserves to be someday.

With the approach of the Summer Solstice, this 1994 bronze and nickel sculpture seems fitting to share. Val named this piece "Pulsing Suns and Moons" and it's easy to see why. Val's love of nature and beyond is always represented in his works, many even leaving planet Earth and taking on the inspiration of our solar neighbors.

James with the Invisible Neck is more than a coloring book- it's a personal journey through the eyes of artist Val Bertoia. Beginning with drawings he created as a child in the 1950s and lovingly preserved by his mother, this book weaves together decades of art into a heartfelt story. Through James's celebrations and hardships, Val mirrors his own life, offering children and adults alike a chance to explore identity, resilience, and joy. Beautifully nostalgic, this book invites readers to color, reflect, and connect with James, with Val, and perhaps even with their own inner child.

The sculpture shown in the second photograph is inspired by this story and lives at the Bertoia homestead, available to see on tours.
