Individual artist, art education and community arts grants are available through Saratoga Arts for artists and organizations in Fulton, Montgomery and Saratoga Counties through the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Statewide Community Regrant Program.

Interested in applying for funding through Saratoga Arts’ SCR Regrant Program? Join Grants Coordinator Spencer Sherry for an Information Session covering the program, available funding opportunities, and what you need to know before applying.

During this approximately one-hour presentation, Spencer will walk participants through the SCR Regrant Program guidelines and application process, including eligibility requirements, funding priorities, eligible expenses, required application materials, important deadlines, and tips for preparing a successful application.

Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions about the program, guidelines, and application process.

Information Sessions are recommended for first-time applicants as well as returning applicants who would like a refresher on this year’s guidelines and requirements.

Clay skill-building workshop with one of our favorite studio collaborators, ceramic artist Lesley Black-Vogel! 🏺

Lesley will share tile design, build, and glazing techniques in this four-session series. Lots of room for personal exploration and developing skills and techniques that you can return to again and again in your own practice.

Beginner friendly, small class, and two time slots to choose from — afternoon or evening ☀️

Where are we getting all of this amazing clay that we have been playing with?! Everywhere! There are pockets of super sticky clay deposits along sides of streams, out in farm fields, in swampy areas and up in the hills around the studio.

We learned why we have so much clay in our area from Union College Geology Professor, Don Rodbell. This area was once covered by a giant glacial lake. In the quiet areas of that lake, fine clay particles slowly filtered through the deep waters and settled on the bottom. Don did a great job describing the process in the Wild Clay Kickoff meeting earlier this year. 🗻 Check it out!

We have also been using historical clues from written accounts and recorded oral histories of where clay was dug in the 19th century! 🏺 Arlene Rhodes from the Galway Historical Society shared some clues with us when we started looking for clay and will be back in the studio on Tuesday, Sept 22 6:30-7:30 to share more about the early commercial potters and brick makers from our area. What is wild clay you might be wondering?!? 😜

Wild clay is what we are calling the clay that we have dug up right from the ground! It's what potters and brick makers used before clay came in a box from the store 🏺

🗓 Stop by on Saturday, Sept 19 to get your hands dirty with us and make something from this amazing resource lying right below our feet.

There will be local ceramic artists that can help you get started if you are new to working with clay and if you have some experience... let's see what you can do with this clay!

We've been having a blast this summer running around the capital district looking for clay and getting our hands dirty! We've found and tested clay from over 10 sites and chose one site to dig up a lot of clay... ~800lbs! 💪🏼🪣

We are going to use that clay to make pottery and little clay sculptures and.... build a primitive style kiln out of that same clay! 🔥

OMG so much fun. Another Charlton Founders’ Day puppet parade in the books! For the past 3 months or so, over 100 people have attended free community build sessions, assembling a procession of puppets celebrating our small town of Charlton’s historical hamlet of Harmony Corners.
