Would you like to take a peek behind the curtain (or the mat) of framing a document from 1796?
The goal in framing is always to do no harm and in most cases of anything that is not easy to replace, is to make it completely reversible.
In this case, I made a 3 sided sling out of 1 ply rag paper, but as the top of the document was ragged, I was hoping the mat would hold it down. I did end up making a couple of hinges out of mending tissue to hold it in place.
The ribbon was a little tricky as it had to be sewed down on top of the mat and through the back mat. I left the ends free to sway and land naturally.
This customer has a history of bringing me some challenging pieces, and I'm happy to say he was again very satisfies with the result!
