"You thought I'd take this lying down?
Well, bitch, I'm standing now."
This new album is fierce. It's such a distinct change from the last The Jess Novak Band album, "Fireworks & Fairytales". While F&F floated around themes of love and fantasy - "Standing Now" is so rooted in reality. It's a dose of sincerity with streaks of fire and moments of pure strength that combine to create something I'm so incredibly proud of. For me, this marks a huge step in maturity and growth. And the band was such a massive part of that.
Every member - Anthony Saturno, Byron Cage, Gavin George, Jabare McKinstry and Nick Fields - shines through in the songs - in style, influence and musical prowess. I love how every single person contributed opinions and ideas that translated so well into the final product. I couldn't ask for a better group of people to perform with and stand beside.
The recording process at Hobin Studios was also such a dream. Despite blizzards and pandemics - I couldn't have asked for smoother sailing when it came to the capture of sounds. Thanks to Brett for making us all feel at home and for reminding me why catching it live is always the way to go.
I also want to thank Jessica Montgomery for the incredible album photography and Michelle Van D**e for the flawless design. And Shannon Fleming, of course, brought the fire with the hair and makeup on that cover shot. I love working with such powerhouse groups of people.
All of that said, we are SO excited to perform the album for you next Sunday, August 9 at 3 p.m. on Facebook Live. The show will air here and on the JNB page. I so hope you'll all watch, but even if you can't - the show will be available after the performance, so you can catch up!
