Looking At the Face of God

I've always loved the story of the nativity. As a mother, I remember looking at my newborns and musing that they just left heaven and God's presence. I often wonder what Mary thought. Did she have similar musings? Did she look at her son and consider she was looking at the face of God? I wanted to paint something reflecting those ideas.

This painting was inspired by storybook cottages and the play of light at dusk. This painting was created with layered glazes to enhance the glow, giving it a luminous quality that changes subtly when viewing. It reflects my ongoing exploration of light as both subject and symbol.
