🎶 Free concerts with The Beale Park Band continue this June!

This season also marks 20 years of leadership by conductor Doug Kelley, who has directed the band since 2006, and celebrates three generations of the Cervantes family performing with the band, including Bakersfield Symphony musicians Ernie and Mary Cervantes.

There are still three concerts remaining this season! June 14, 21, and 28 at 8 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, blanket, or picnic basket and enjoy a free evening of music under the stars at Beale Park. 🎶

The Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra was proud to attend the Bakersfield Youth Symphony’s season finale concert.
The evening celebrated the incredible talent of young musicians, including featured soloist Nicolas Xin, a Bakersfield Symphony volunteer through Stockdale’s National Honor Society, and a performance of “Dust Swirls, Then Speaks” by local composer Dr. Doug Davis, winner of the Bakersfield Symphony’s 2023/24 Catherine M. Urner Composer Discovery Project.
As a proud BYSO affiliate, we are grateful for the opportunities it provides young musicians to learn, grow, and share their talents with our community. Congratulations to Dr. Leo Sakomoto, the graduating seniors, and all the students, families, volunteers, educators, and supporters who made this season a success.

What a way to wrap up the season.
A packed theater. Epic scores. Iconic moments. A moving solo from Julia Haney in “Schindler’s List” that stopped us in our tracks.
And a heartfelt congratulations to Steve O’Connor on his retirement after 51 years with the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra. Thank you for everything you’ve given to this organization and community.
A finale we won’t forget. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the Symphony this season.
Now we look ahead to our 95th Season: A Season in Motion. Stay tuned for a season that moves, inspires, and brings our community together. Secure your seats today.

On May 9, we celebrated an extraordinary milestone in Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra history.

After 51 years with the BSO, longtime Second Trumpet Steve O’Connor took his final bow.

Steve first performed with the Symphony in 1975 and earned the second trumpet chair in 1982. Over the decades, he has become far more than a remarkable musician. He is a mentor, educator, leader, and cherished member of the BSO family.

From youth programs and the Bakersfield Youth Symphony to countless rehearsals and performances, Steve’s dedication has helped shape both the sound of our orchestra and the lives of generations of musicians throughout Kern County.

Fittingly, Steve’s final performance was our Epic Scores: The Music of John Williams concert, bringing an incredible 51-year chapter to a close.

Steve, thank you for your talent, your service, and your unwavering commitment to music. Your impact on the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra and our community will be felt for years to come.

Please join us in congratulating Steve on his retirement and thanking him for an extraordinary legacy. 🎺💛
