ARTIST STATEMENT:
My first piece of jewelry that really mattered was a bracelet from my Oma. I wore it until the day it fell off for the last time, and I still think about it: the simplicity, the elegance, the little sparkle on my wrist that made me feel just a bit better.
When I first heard about permanent jewelry on a trip to LA, I knew right away I wanted one. I got my first piece that same trip, alongside a good friend of mine, and I wanted more. At the time I was running a business that wasn’t fulfilling and was costing me more stress than it was worth, so I took the plunge and started something new -- one that was entirely my own.

Two years later, Unna has grown more than I ever imagined, and I’m so very proud and grateful. I’ve supported clients through loss and through finding their way back to feeling alive after serious health challenges. To me, this is more than jewelry; it’s a reminder of something bigger -- a friendship or a relationship, and a reminder that we’re worth dressing up for.

We are pleased to feature Premier Artist Heather Frederickson of Coastal Clay, who has showcased her exceptional pottery at five of our Bainbridge Island Art events in 2026. Her work is adored!

Artist Statement
Growing up on the Oregon coast, I spent my summers at Little Beach, which is on the cusp between Seaside and Gerhart. I spent hours playing with my sister, creating ‘houses’ on the tree stumps that floated in their own little tide pools. At night, I’d fall asleep to the distant waves of Mama Ocean, and the feel of sand in my bed.

I moved up to the Seattle area after high school to become a massage therapist. I lived on Vashon Island, a magical island full of artists and open-hearted people.
I’ve been a massage therapist since 1995, and for the last ten years, have taken a break to have a family. Years later, I took a pottery class. I felt my heart explode with such joy! Working with clay brings me to a place of oneness with Spirit, the vast inner landscape that weaves the world around me. I am truly amazed to find that this connection is the same vastness I tap into doing massage. Working with my hands and heart. I am thankful to Mother Earth for creating this ancient clay for me to create with. I hope you enjoy my work! It is so much fun, and such a blessing!

Meet Kirsten Sneath! Kirsten is a Premier Artist with Bainbridge Island Art. Over the past year, she has participated in 5 of our art events. Kirsten is a Bainbridge Island resident and the owner of the Facebook Group, Bainbridge Island Artists.

Artist statement -
I am a painter of animals and birds mostly. I paint primarily in acrylic but I like to paint with watercolor too. I also create pieces using sea glass and ceramic that I find on local beaches. I love being inspired by nature and my surroundings. It really makes me happy seeing people smile when they see my paintings and sea glass pieces. I enjoy using my own photographs whenever possible, as it's always nice to be able to share a story about the subject if I can. I regularly take commissions for pet portraits and have completed many over the last 10 years. I love what I do and look forward to seeing where my next inspiration will come from.

We're highlighting our Premier Artists to showcase their art and the events where you can find them in the upcoming months.

Today's Premier Artist is Melody Maleitzke, a collage artist using washi tape as her medium.

Melody is an artist, community builder, and creative strategist whose work sits at the intersection of fine art and public engagement. Her practice centers on washi tape as a contemporary art medium, an accessible and tactile material that invites people of all ages and abilities into the creative process. Through both her personal studio work and her community projects, she creates spaces where people feel welcomed and empowered to make something beautiful.

Artist Statement:
My art is about connection. I want my work to feel approachable and alive. I want people to sense the care in each gesture and to feel invited into the process. Whether I am working alone in my studio or guiding a community project, I return to the same belief. Small acts of creativity can build something meaningful. They can bring people together. They can change how we see the world.

Welcome, Michele Bianchi! Michele was juried in as a Premier Artist with Bainbridge Island Art.

Michele is a Bainbridge Island artist who creates one-of-a-kind jewelry using a combination of silversmithing, lapidary, silver metal clay, Keum-boo and hand-knotting techniques. She cuts, shapes and polishes stones through traditional lapidary methods and is always looking to learn new techniques and combine them in original designs.

Artist statement
My work is rooted in a love of nature, where I find endless inspiration in patterns, colors and form. I’m drawn to the slow process of making jewelry by hand, whether I’m pressing texture into silver, shaping a stone from a rough slab, carving into silver metal clay or knotting pearls one at a time. I like allowing the materials and process to influence the original design I had in mind so each piece develops its own character and captures the joy I felt making it.
