Please help us congratulate our 2026 Parade Grand Marshals: Steve & Kathy Johanson!!!!! Read the Johanson family story and history of Badger below!! 🎉🎊

Steve and Kathy Johanson have been life long home residents of Badger. They met while they were classmates at the former Badger Elementary School and both graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1969.

Steve began working for his dad Maurice Johanson at the age of 14 at the family-owned Johanson’s Seed and Milling Company of Badger. He has been the owner since 1989 until his retirement in 2018.

During the 1980’s, Steve owned/operated the Smoked Ribs and More of Badger until 2025. Steve served Badger as a firefighter and first responder for 18 years. He also served the community as a police officer, Cub Scout leader, a cook at Gramp’s of Badger, a member of the Webster County Posse and a scuba instructor to mention just a few of the many jobs he's had over the years!

Kathy was employed at Friendship Haven for 43 years prior to her retirement as a CNA/Medication Aide and transported patients to various medical appointments statewide. She earned her Medical Certificate through Fort Dodge Iowa Central Community College.

Kathy's greatest joy comes from spending time with her family as a wife and mother. Steve and Kathy were blessed with three children: Stephanie (Bill) Crimmins, Andy (Lindsy) Johanson, and Megan (Chad) Sullivan. They are also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Both are lifetime members of Badger Lutheran Church where they were married in 1973. ❤️

Steve and Kathy continue to still stay active in the community of their beloved hometown of Badger.
