The Azusa Conservatory of Music began in 2002 as a community school that would serve local students, providing quality musical training to families of all socioeconomic backgrounds. Since then, the conservatory has greatly expanded it’s courses offered, now incorporating music technology, rock band, choir, and most recently art classes. This year, with the leadership of our conservatory faculty, talent of our students, and support of conservatory parents, the Azusa Conservatory’s first collaborative arts summer camp will rehearse and perform an opera, an arrangement of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
The gift that opera presents to us is the unique opportunity of combining art and design, music, and dance into one unified production. The challenge that it presents us with is managing the scale and ambition of such a project. The Collaborative Arts Summer Camp: Opera for the Community strives to create an accessible means of engaging with opera on a communal level. Our goals for this group include the following:
