We are very excited about our youth Collaborative Arts Summer Camp in June, and invite you to pre-register by Thursday April 14, 2022 to receive a guaranteed spot and $100 discount. This camp is for orchestra, choir, and art students and will be limited to 20 orchestra members, 25 singers, and 10 artists, so please sign up now! Premiering ¨The Empire of Light - Community Opera in One Act¨
As a brand new Opera specially commissioned by our Opera Summer Camp CASC, this is a multi-arts and community educational Opera in English, Spanish, and Quechua (traditional Inca language). This is an opera that has music, singing, orchestra, arts, scenography, composition, acting, and dance, as well as a carefully designed pedagogical proposal for communities and kids.
Estrenado ¨El Imperio de la Luz - Opera Comunitaria en un Acto¨
Como una nueva ópera especialmente encargada por nuestro Campamento de verano Ópera CASC, esta es una ópera educativa multi-artística y comunitaria en inglés, español y quechua (idioma tradicional inca). Esta es una ópera que tiene música, canto, orquesta, artes, escenografía, composición, actuación y danza y una propuesta pedagógica cuidadosamente diseñada para comunidades y niños. Además, la Ópera destaca la importancia de la diversidad en nuestra sociedad.

Opera for the Community

The Azusa Conservatory of Music began in 2002 as a community school that would serve local students, providing quality musical training to families of all socioeconomic backgrounds. Since then, the conservatory has greatly expanded it’s courses offered, now incorporating music technology, rock band, choir, and most recently art classes. This year, with the leadership of our conservatory faculty, talent of our students, and support of conservatory parents, the Azusa Conservatory’s first collaborative arts summer camp will rehearse and perform an opera, an arrangement of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

The gift that opera presents to us is the unique opportunity of combining art and design, music, and dance into one unified production. The challenge that it presents us with is managing the scale and ambition of such a project. The Collaborative Arts Summer Camp: Opera for the Community strives to create an accessible means of engaging with opera on a communal level. Our goals for this group include the following:


  • Make opera available for all ages and levels (with at least one year of instrumental experience for orchestra)

  • Provide all-encompassing accessibility to opera
