Since announcing the demolition of one of New Orleans iconic clubs, I've decided to dedicate this page to it's memory. Ole Man Rivers was founded by Sherman Bernard, Jr. in October, 1977. The building was originally the Bernard family restaurant. Fairfield Plantation, a gourmet restaurant, was named after the Plantation grounds it sits on. Built in 1964-1965 it was a beautiful venue with great foo
d. Once the restaurant closed, it was taken over and became a country music club and restaurant called the Stage Coach Inn until Sherman, Jr. a New Orleans musician and Capital recording artist and member of Noah's Wax Battleship Band and Manchild, converted it into a concert venue with help from his family. The stage made the way for acts such as The Police, Talking Heads, PRINCE, Daryl Hall & John Oats, The Go Go's, Peter Tosh, David Allen Coe, B.B. King, Todd Rundgren and Utopia, Iggy Pop, Johnny Winter Band, Rick Derringer, and local bands like the Neville Brothers, Irma Thomas, Ernie K-Doe, Lee Dorsey, Allen Toussaint, Professor Longhair, Fats Domino and countless others over a brief 5 year period till it closed its doors in 1982. I am Deanna Bernard. I worked with my family on this business from conception. These are my personal photographs and memories of the things that I witnessed while there. I was inspired to set this page up because we have decided to tear the building down and I want to keep it's musical memory alive for as long as I can. I invite you all to share your Ole Man Rivers story. And I know you've got one, 'cause we all do! Let's get this party started! I'll be posting photos of some of the acts that graced the stage. I invite you all to do the same! And thanks for the memories! Deanna
