At Inspire Arts we watch a film each month that sparks new ideas and lively discussions amongst our group. This week we learned about the creative entrepreneur and inventor, Lawrence Herbert. At 96, he reflects on his life, from growing up in Brooklyn during the Depression to creating the Pantone Matching System. His visionary idea established a language for color that was used across all industries. LP shared, “His life was so interesting, I am more aware of how colors are used, and the impact they have on us everyday.”

🌈What is your favorite color? Share below!

[ID: Info graphic for the film, white back ground with black letters at the top reads, “The King of Color”. A black and white photo of Lawrence Herbert sitting on colorful blocks that are stacked like stairs, some of the blocks of colors overlap each other revealing new colors. At the bottom in black letters reads, “He gave the world a new language - the language of color”.]

Our group planted this years veggies - tomatoes and peppers. And something new we are trying - sunflowers, which are already sprouted! 🌻 We are excited to be spending more time outdoors and sharing in the joy of watching the plants grow in our community garden!

“Windows of Tolerance” is a creative project which provides a medium to authentically express emotions.

Inside the box showcases the artists experience of safety and inner harmony, the outside expresses stressors which can disrupt that peaceful state.

MM's for example showcases his bedroom as his "happy place”, which include his tv, laptop, basketball, and sofa. The outside shows snow, sticks, and colors that implicate negative feelings and anxiety.

Thank you to Inspire Arts staff member Tyler, who facilitated this wonderful project!

For JM, creating art for a family member adds a layer of intentionality and love, which he especially enjoys. He recently completed a portrait of his cousins pup, Harley. Great work JM!!

[ID: JM smiles while sitting in his wheelchair, he wears black and white shorts and a gray shirt. He wears a cast on this left arm and holds his painting up with his right hand. The painting shows a black and white dog against a green background. Behind JM is a white wall with a colorful painting, a blue cabinet, and a window with a green plant in a blue pot.]
