Here are a few of our turmeric anthotype sun prints! It’s a trial and error process that is allowing everyone to learn a new medium while spending more time outdoors. Very beautiful and interesting results!

LP and others tried turmeric anthotype printing. This process involved painting on a mixture of turmeric and rubbing alcohol to paper and placing flat objects over top that is then exposed to the sun.

We got very interesting results that we can’t wait to share with you soon!

Our group took advantage of these beautiful days to create outside, making garden mushrooms. We made a mixture of cement, peat moss, and perlite which is known as Hypertufa - a light weight crafting mixture for structural projects. Here are some of the finished mushrooms and more are in the works. You’ll be delighted to find them in our gardens this summer. ☺️

We enjoyed another ActUp Theater production this weekend in Hartford, Matilda the hi-hop musical remix! Experiencing community theater together reminds us of the importance of the arts in our communities to inspire creativity. Thank you ActUp for all you do, we can’t wait for Frozen in December!

At Inspire Arts we watch a film each month that sparks new ideas and lively discussions amongst our group. This week we learned about the creative entrepreneur and inventor, Lawrence Herbert. At 96, he reflects on his life, from growing up in Brooklyn during the Depression to creating the Pantone Matching System. His visionary idea established a language for color that was used across all industries. LP shared, “His life was so interesting, I am more aware of how colors are used, and the impact they have on us everyday.”

Our group planted this years veggies - tomatoes and peppers. And something new we are trying - sunflowers, which are already sprouted! 🌻 We are excited to be spending more time outdoors and sharing in the joy of watching the plants grow in our community garden!
