Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, a Symphonic Poem by Claude Debussy is considered a quintessential example of musical Impressionism. The Finlandia tone poem, Finlandia, Op. 26, is one of the most famous orchestral works by the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. It was written in 1899 as the last part of a cycle of symphonic pictures dedicated to the Finnish printing festival. Sibelius felt it was his duty to express this protest through music. Down a Country Lane by Aaron Copland is a quiet, peaceful work. On June 29, 1962, Life Magazine featured Aaron Copland's composition Down a Country Lane. The piece was commissioned by Life in hopes of making quality music available to the common pianist and student; it was then orchestrated and premiered on
November 20, 1965. Frostiana, Seven Country Songs by Robert Frost set to music by Randall Thompson features seven of Frost’s poems that celebrate the countryside and people of New England as they were at the time of the commission. All of the poems
except for Choose Something Like a Star are from one book of Frost’s poems, You Come Too.
Come join TrueNorth, Saturday, October 26th, Down a Country Lane, TrueNorth Fall Concert, as we celebrate the changing colors of the seasons through this glorious music.
