🎬 WELCOME TO THE FAM: Meet our new Director of Film 🎬

The Gallery ATX is so thrilled to introduce Abbey Watts Weber (they/them) as our new Director of Film — the visionary who’ll be coordinating and executing FILM IN ATX, our annual celebration of emerging Austin filmmakers.

Abbey is a q***r, multidisciplinary expressionist artist, writer, set designer, and filmmaker based right here in Austin. Their work lives in the spaces of love, obsession, heartbreak, and identity — because Abbey believes art is the ultimate vessel for telling the truth. They’re also deeply committed to nontraditional, anti-capitalist models of creating and producing, and to a simple but powerful idea: everyone has a story worth witnessing.

That belief is exactly why Abbey is the perfect fit to lead FILM IN ATX into its next chapter. 🎥

A few fun facts while you’re getting to know them: Abbey has been reading tarot since they were a tween and loves giving readings — so don’t be surprised if the cards make an appearance at a future Gallery event. 🔮

We’re so excited to introduce Charlotte (Arlo) Kretzler, The Gallery ATX’s new Director of Exhibitions! ✨
Arlo started out running our zine-making table at ART IN ATX, and has since stepped up to support location scouting, artist recruiting, and curation for our group shows. Born and raised right here in ATX, with dual citizenship that took her all the way to art school at Nottingham Trent University in the UK — she’s brought that global perspective right back home.

OPEN CALL 📣 STUDIO WORKS in ATX

Studio space in Austin isn’t cheap — and not every artist has a place they can open up to the public. STUDIO WORKS in ATX is a new outdoor art market from The Gallery ATX, happening at Central Machine Works on November 22 during Austin Studio Tour, built specifically for artists who make incredible work without an official studio to show it in.

This isn’t just a sales table. Each vendor booth is built around three things: art you want to show, art you want to sell, and a piece of your process — your mood boards, journals, playlists, tools, whatever makes your practice yours. We want visitors to leave knowing how you make your work, not just what you made.

Also on deck: a passport scavenger hunt sending visitors booth to booth (with custom stickers we’re printing for you 👀), plus a rotating live painting/making station with an end-of-event auction benefiting Gallery ATX’s emerging artist programming.
