What a beautiful night for an ending. Rook had our last show with our dearest Sarah Marie Curry on Friday. The house was packed, the audience was hot, we sang our little hearts out and Sarah Marie was transcendent as always. Sarah Marie, how we will miss you so. Over the last three years you have been an incredible partner, collaborator, dreamer, and friend. There is no one like you in all the world. We wish you the best in your next projects and dreams, and will never forget how much fun we have had together in Rook. Knock em dead, lady! ❤️ Love, Your Birdies.

Wafflefest is our favorite fest - especially Sarah Marie Curry's favorite fest. So it is fitting then that we announce that Friday night will be our last show with our dearest Sarah Marie. She is going onward to the next adventure, and we will miss her so dearly. So let's send her out with a powdered sugar bonanza and a waffly farewell to show our love ❤️. The tears, laughs, and oh-so-much sugar happen this Friday night at 7:30 pm at the Hideout Theatre! Tickets here: http://www.hideouttheatre.com/shows/wafflefest/

What a lovely and wonderful week we've had. This weekend we closed out a wonderful run of Rook Presents: The Raven. Then, Monday night Rook was so honored and proud to receive the Martin Demaat Award for Outstanding Itinerant Improvisational Troupe at the 45th Annual B Iden Payne Awards ceremony! Sarah Marie and Cat were there to accept the award and Cat flipped out just a little bit. :-) Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us and come to our shows and taken our workshops. Thanks especially to the B Iden Payne Awards Council for this wonderful surprise.
And finally, on to the next one! Rook performs THIS Sunday night at Zach Theatre at 8pm for Merlin Works! Come see us!

There's just something about them, those frightening women of lore. Their steely stares, their careful soundless steps, their terrifying lullabies sent echoing into the darkness... They beckon to you: come closer. Come hear my song. No harm will come to you. I promise...

One of the most glorious things we love about Rook Presents:The Raven are the beautiful and terrifying settings. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's works, we have reveled in those eerie, isolated mansions, the darkened skies, the howling winds, the fog that creeps just outside the doorstep... Come join us for a limited run of these gothic tales of horror and hysteria. Halloween weekend at the Hideout Theatre October 31st-November 2nd. Hideouttheatre.com for tickets and more information.

In these dark times, it is so good to see such sweetness in friends such as you.
A noise, you say, by the back door? No, I didn't hear that at all. It's nothing to worry about. Nothing at all....

At the ending of October
When the nights are growing colder,
You shall see a kind of show that has not e'er been seen before--
And shall again-- nevermore!
For three nights only! Rook Presents: The Raven, A Gothic Tale of Horror and Hysteria. Featuring special guests, Katie Traughber, David Ronn, and Rob Yoho. In the style and tone of Edgar Allan Poe’s "The Raven," set in the misty moors of a fictitious turn-of-the-century Victorian countryside, Rook will perform an improvised musical fraught with paranoia and suspense. Characters mistrust, deceive, and slip into desperate songs of fear and longing.
Take care, friends... Don't let your candle go out!
Hideout Theatre, October 31st-November 2nd. Tickets and more information at Hideouttheatre.com

Forged in the fires of 2016, Rook is a modern musical improv troupe from Austin, Texas. Using a unique blend of piano and song, drama and comedy, improvisation and theatrical training, Rook presents the cutting edge of musical improv. Discovered on-the-spot, emotional and poignant, hilarious and cerebral, this off-off-off-broadway show is surprising, delightful, and oh-so-well sung. With award winning actress Sarah Marie Curry, improvisor and director Cat Drago, classically trained opera singer Megan Sherrod, and composer and pianist Natalie Wright, Rook is good because of training and amazing because of improv.
Our main objective is to create a dynamic show that pushes musical improv forward into a more precise and inspired realm of discovery.
