On Tuesday at the Elephant Room, Double Vision will debut my last new tune of 2025 โ โ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐.โ
My co-leader and longtime music brother John Mills Music ๐๐จ๐ก๐ง ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฌ just released a beautiful new record, ๐โ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐
๐๐๐ ๐ต๐ฆ. I play piano on it, and thereโs a tune John wrote called โ๐๐ฐ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ โ โ a deep nod to New Orleans and that unmistakable second-line feel.
John Mills Times Ten has been together for about ๐๐ ๐ฒ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ, and this is our ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ, so that sound runs deep. Hearing that tune pushed me to write my own take on the ๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฒ / ๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ groove โ laid back, greasy, and southern to the core.
That tune is โ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐,โ and weโll be debuting it with ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง this Tuesday at the ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฉ๐ก๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ถ. Same vibe in paint too โ my companion piece ๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ is all wet streets, humidity, and that French Quarter glow after dark.
โMud Slideโ sits right in that laid-back, greasy pocket โ the kind of groove you only hear in the South. And the companion painting is my way of capturing that wet street, humid, French Quarter at night vibe.
