The exhibition has brought much attention to the unsung heroes of movie making, the uncredited backdrop artists.
“This is the first museum show exploring the production of Hollywood's painted backdrops that were the grandest illusions ever made for the movies. At the invitation of the museum, Karen L. Maness, the University of Texas at Austin and Associate Professor of Practice, and Thomas A. Walsh, the Director of The Art Directors Guild Archives, curated the Art of the Hollywood Backdrop since they were among the few passionate people interested in preserving these American treasures.
The executive director of the Boca Raton Museum of Art, Irvin Lippman, underlined how miraculous it is that "these historic monumental paintings were not lost forever, as so many Hollywood treasures have disappeared."
