Edward’s students and staff developed ballet folklórico programming to show appreciation for the Mexican culture. As a performance group, members have the opportunity to perform traditional dances from different regions of Mexico. Established in 2002, the group receives artistic direction from guest choreographers from dance companies across Texas and Mexico. The group has performed for audiences
ranging from elementary, middle, and high school students in Austin, to the St. Edward’s community. The group has also performed at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, placed 1st in the Amusement Division of the Battle of the Flowers Parade 2006 and 2007, and 2nd place in 2005, 2008, 2009, and 2013. In 2010, 2011, and 2012 the group was invited to perform for King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The group’s repertoire includes dances from the states of Veracruz, Nayarit, Nuevo Leon, Jalisco, Yucatan, Sinaloa, Sinaloa Costa, Tamaulipas Huasteca, Veracruz Huasteca, Puebla, Baja California Norte and Concheros.
