Sora is dead. And truthfully, who didn’t see this coming?
OpenAI just shut down its AI video app, Sora — less than six months after launch. The Disney deal ($1 billion investment, character licensing, the whole thing)? Gone.
The tech press spins this as a strategic pivot. But here’s what’s really happening: AI video never made financial sense as a consumer product. Once the novelty wore off it was time to pay the piper.
We focus on making reality TV for channels like National Geographic and PBS and the one thing that has always been true is that: story is king. Audiences don’t just want impressive visuals. They want stories with meaning. And impressive fades fast.
Sora could generate stunning visuals. But it couldn’t generate a reason to care.
This won’t be the last AI product we see fold. The tools that survive will be the ones that serve storytellers — not replace them.
What do you think — is this a blip, or the beginning of a correction?
