INSECTS of " THE DRAGONFLY PRINCESS "
Insects of " The Dragonfly Princess " are on the scale of the prehistoric ( 300 million years ago ) . Ovo fairies ( 5 inches ) ride different color dragonflies , their steeds of the sky , that are the size of the prehistoric meganeura . The mosquitoes that attack Princess Mala are as large as an Ovo fairy . The mysterious unseen Orca centipede is the shape & size of the prehistoric arthropleura .

LILY LAKE of the OVO
Every 20 years the Ovo return to the origin of their birth , Lily Lake , hidden away upon the summit of their sacred mountain Black Rock . Floating upon the surface of the crystal clear water are 21 magical lilies : five of quart , five of obsidian , five of sapphire , five of amber , & one of gold at their epicenter . On the Night of the Awakening ( spring equinox ) , the chosen Ovo , the Champions , & their Queen hover above their assigned lilies . To the quartz lilies go five Ryders .To the obsidian lilies go five Syryns . To the sapphire liles go five Healers . To the amber lilies go five Shapers . Above the central gold lily hovers Queen Qlye wielding the Gold Pearl . When the full moon is directly above Lily Lake , beams of radiance emanate from the Gold Pearl & envelope the Ovo in an energetic dome . As the Queen sings her Spawn Song , a shaft of golden light is released from the yoni of the Ovos down into the center of the lilies . Within the petals then manifests an infant Ovo belonging to the Flower Mother's clan .

By far the most powerful & feared pearl in " The Dragonfly Princess " is the legendary BLACK PEARL . In the opera , the sorceress Vyn wields the dark orb to control Mala mind , body , & soul . With the BLACK PEARL in hand , a fae may enter the magic magma of Volcano Island . The wielder of the dark orb can teleport themselves & others engulfed in a dense black smoke which it emits . Through the BLACK PEARL , all spells of the forbidden Shadow Magic are accessible .

In " The Dragonfly Princess " , the Xhali are an amphibious sea horse-like fae who reside in colorful coral dwellings along the southern shore of the Great Island . The most spectacular of their coral structures is Xhali Temple whose hierophant is High Priestess QUAIN . Fae from all over the Great Island pilgrimage to Xhali Temple to receive QUAIN's healing salt water magic for ailments of body & spirit.

As First Navigator for Princess Mala , JOJI rides behind Mala on the gold & green dragonfly Xephera . The warrior Koil is also Mala's Royal Guardian who ensures the princess's safety . Though originally a servant in Ovo Palace , JOJI ascended in rank to become the protector & eventually the lover of Mala .

VOLCANO ISLAND
In " The Dragonfly Princess " the abode of the sorceress Vyn is Volcano Island . Originally the isle was the homeland of a crab-like fae known as the Krinn who flourished there in ancient times . The Krinn were then over-run by the Koil fae who built a massive structure within the volcanic crater - Koil Temple . Eventually Volcano Island fell under the jurisdiction of the Ovo who employed the dispossessed Koil in harvesting the sought after white pearls buried beneath the volcano in underground tunnels & caves . ROKO , King of the Krinn , was reanimated by Vyn only to witness his Krinn warriors executed by the sorceress . Though the Koil are prohibited from inhabiting the ruins of Koil Temple , their mysterious Queen EJA is its sole resident besides Vyn . The sorceress eventually discovered EJA was the secret Keeper of the Black Pearl , the most powerful & lethal of all magic pearls . Vyn became EJA's lover who then revealed the secret chants that activate the deadly orb . Vyn betrayed EJA by cutting out the queen's tongue so only the sorceress could wield the ominous Black Pearl .

The DRAGONFLY PRINCESS : The NOVEL !
In addition to the revised opera , composer / writer Chad Salvata is working on a full length novel of " The Dragonfly Princess " . The opera is only the last third of the entire narrative . The novel shall explore in greater detail the Ovo & their dwellings in the Seven Sisters cypress trees . Many new characters shall be introduced that do not appear in the opera , such as Onyx , High Priestess of Ovo Temple , & Zara , Mala's childhood friend & adult lover . The life of Princess Mala shall begin at birth on Lily Lake & her experience as a Ricochet champion will be highlighted . Vyn will be introduced as a Scorpa fae servant working at Pearl Academy who eventually ascends to become its High Priestess .

Her slumbering Divine Body , tall as the cypress tress of Ovona , is said to be imprisoned inside the massive White Mountain of the Great Island . From Her dreamworld the Goddess may appear in Her fae form to her beloved Ovo .

The Ovo are dived into four clans - Ryders , Syryns , Healers , & Shapers . Ryders are the pilots of their dragonflies & the athletes of their sports . Syryns are the clerics of their religion & performers of their music . Healers are the physicians who use blue pearl magic to cure illnesses & repair injuries . Shapers are the architects & artists who transform organic material into structures & artworks using copper pearl magic . The four clans are represented in the their sacred symbol , the Divine Lily .

Ovona is the Queendom of the Ovo , an all female fae who live in cypress trees known as the Seven Sisters . Within the branches of their city are luminous white pearls & sophisticated dwellings , such as Ovo Palace of their sovereign , Queen Qlye . Most beloved of all the Ovo is Princess Mala , champion of their popular sport Ricochet . They are known throughout the Great Island as the Fae of the Dragonflies which they ride as their steeds of the sky . Queen Qlye weilds the Gold Pearl which grants the Ovo perpetual youth & longevity . As a deeply religious fae , the Ovo worship their sole deity , the Dragonfly Goddess .
