Testify celebrates Pride Month!

In this powerful and deeply personal true story, storyteller Rene Slataper explores childhood trauma, recurring dreams, and the search for peace. What begins with memories of a turbulent childhood and a near-drowning experience evolves into a haunting dream that follows him for years. Through therapy and self-reflection, those dreams begin to shift, revealing something unexpected about fear, abandonment, and healing.

Blending vulnerability, psychology, and vivid storytelling, this live performance from Testify ATX dives into anxiety, inner transformation, and the surprising ways our minds help us cope. A moving story about survival, meaning, and learning how to breathe again.

His story link is in the comments.

Our June show is a short story show. Short stories are like snapshots of a specific moment in time—a moment that stands out to us because of what it taught us, how it moved us, or what it revealed.

These moments pass quickly, but they matter. Even though they’re over, they echo in our lives. They still stop us when we think of them. Maybe they make us smile, maybe they make us cry, maybe they stir something we can’t quite name.

Over a decade ago, I was at a party and heard a laugh. The laugh belonged to Steve, and it came with a smile that told me I had to meet him. We’ve been together for over a decade now, and it all started with that one moment.

This show is about those moments. The ones we keep. The ones that rise to the surface from time to time to remind us that it’s often the quiet moments that shape a life.

The first time you fall in love is a surprise. Love isn't what we're told in books or shown in the movies. Sometimes the lesson of a first love is to be more open-eyed for your next one.

What happens after the credits roll on a romantic comedy? In this true story, our storytellers shares how her first “proper” boyfriend became her entire world—and how that obsession slowly suffocated both of them. When he began pulling away, she spiraled into anxiety and panic, clinging tighter instead of learning to breathe on her own.
