Austin Poetry Slam is one of (if not THE) oldest, continuously running poetry slam in the country, but we are so much more than that.
In the words of one of our previous Slam masters, Tova Charles "Slam is the door, not the house".
Austin Poetry Slam is has been home to thousands of wayward people over the last 32 years. Here, it truly only matters WHO you are.
Yes, we Slam, but we also have open mics, writing workshops, artist meet ups, we connect poets to other appearance opportunities, etc.
When you come to show, someone will very often welcome you home. We hope you're comfortable here. We hope you feel free to be who you are here. We hope you can connect to all your feelings here. We hope you leave feeling lighter.
